Power Restriction Until 3000 miles?

Post by mjh123 » Tue Aug 29, 2006 12:42 am

I heard recently that the RS4's ECU restricts power until 3000 miles have been logged. Can anyone confirm this? I personally found it a touch hard to believe, especially as no one has mentioned it on here.

I have heard that and believe it was confirmed on another forum (forget which)... I forget what % of power is being reserved, was it 15%? I just don't remember.

simple1, how do you know its giving yo the full power? the engine is programmed to release an additional % of power after n miles, the question is what is n? do you know? it might hold more power than you realize. i hope idt does :)

How do I know its giving full bananas?.............. Been around high powered cars for many years and know what 400 bhp feels like, if I was missing 15% of my stable, I would know about it.... same way I knew when my B5 dropped into limp home mode when a sensor failed I suppose :beerchug:

There was a similar discussion to this on another forum (fourtitude I think) but with the mileage said to be 1000 miles. IIRC theygot a statement that while it was entirelt possible to implement such a mileage based power limit, it had not been done.

Would have to say I would have no way of knowing if power was capped in first 1k miles, as I didnt give mine more than 4000 revs until it had done that.

This makes perfect sense to me, and would be a cunning way of increasing the drivers love of the car. It runs great and then at 3k miles, it gets better....?

Or perhaps the engine is starting to loosen off...

My S4 took nearly 20k miles to fully loosen up, but then I did run that it carefully - as I have done with my RS4.

Complete rubbish about it being capped. I know somebody had their car on a dyno at 800 miles and it produced 405 bhp but this is only due to it not being run in, had it loosened up it would have given the full power.
