Getting my RS4 next week!

Post by JMiles » Sun Apr 16, 2006 7:50 pm

Hi All.

New to the forum but would like to get people's thoughts about my RS4spec. Have managed to get this car a lot sooner due to cancelled order so am stuck with this spec:-

Sprint Blue
Technology pack
Suede wheel and gearknob (not sure about it, would have probaly stayed with the leather)
Air recirculation (£130 option - don't know if any good really)
self opening boot (Why? Just as well only £30)

Would have liked the auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensor wipers and auto lights as per my old M3, but as my mate says thats really because I'm lazy and not worth missing the car for.

Have driven a demo car and I freaked at the sound, handling and speed. Can't wait.

Would love to hear views from owners and prospective ones.

Hello. I've taken a 'cancelled' order which I was able to spec and have been told delivery by end of June. My spec is

1) Black. To be honest I would have been just as happy with sprint/mug/red

2) Tech. Essential, both for day to day life and resale.

3) Self boot job. Opted for this because it was only £30!

4) Auto dim/rain sensor. Its one of those things that once you have a car with it, it seems essential! My C32 AMG has it. TBH, its not the auto lights but the rain sens wipers that I find really useful, means you don't have to keep fiddling around.

5) Electric recaros. Just because these suit me.

You've got the tech pack is which the most important, imho

Like you I was smitten after the test drive, I'm not easly impressed as I've (test) driven all sorts of exotica.

All the best!

Seems a good spec as it has the Tech pack, which is a must on a car like this.

Enjoy when it arrives.

My test drive was in a black one and I have to say it looked beautiful when clean. That's obviously the only problem with black, but if you're gonna spend 50 grand on a car you should be keeping it clean!

The seats are a real interesting point. I fit in them fine but if I put another couple of pounds on I'm going to be in trouble. My real worry is how comfortable they will remain and the wear and the wear and tear.

I know what you mean about the auto dim/wipers but like I said I don't want to lose the car. Maybe I'll be able to get it retro-fitted in the future.

Had an E46 M3 Cab but sold it a few months ago. Outing the big but unexciting X5 for the RS!

M3 was a great car, but we are talking about an 8 to 9 year old design and the SMG was rubbish compared to the smooth gear changes on the RS> I couldn't believe how smooth and responsive the engine was. Oh and the interior is about 50 times better thean the M3's. I also test drove the M% and whilst it was bonkers fast the interior looked awful. All shiny chrome and funny angular switchgear.

Yes I can relate to pretty much what youve said..... for me its always been a strange mindset on BMW M cars.... they just come across as being too bland inside, interior-wise.

I used to own a Audi S3 years ago and that interior seemed better in quality and finish compared to the M3 etc..... just dont know what it is about Audi interiors... they feel good :)

The best thing about the M3 is the engine, yeah but now getting dated, be interesting see what the new V8 M3 is like.

Yup, apparently its a cut down version of the M5 V10 engine.... 4.0 V8 pushing about 406-425bhp.

It could be a closer battle than most think when it arrives and goes head-to-head against the RS4..... lets hope it rains.... :D

I was never that impressed by the M3 engine. The sound was one of the worst I've ever heard. Like nails being rattled in a tin by someone on acid

Riz, the V8 M3 will have the votes of all the mags and journalists. They will go on about how 'adjustable' it is and how great it is to slide the tail around. Funnily enough I don't tend to do that with my family on the public road. I also don't want to be mistaken for the local drug dealer!

I'm sure BMW will make sure the M3 beats the RS4 in the numbers game by just a few % ie BHP/0-60/100 etc
