Got a call from my local dealer asking if I would be interested in a test drive of their new RS4? 20 mins later I'm sat in the drivers seat about to press the silver start button!
Basics - Sounds like thunder and goes like a scalded cat. Bit more detail - The one I took out had the bucket seats that when you press the 'S' button on the steering wheel the seat bolsters move in and hug the driver in place - so so comfy, the exhaust note changes and you then you can't help grinning from ear to ear. The steering feels fantastic, good weight, response and driver feedback, power delivery is strong and smooth and brakes really well weighted. Wafting along you could be in a slightly noisey base model, suspension is not at all crashy and is well damped. Thoroughly enjoyed it, well done Audi, can understand the positive press response.
That said, still jumped back into my S4 and think that the kick you get when the turbos kick in is hard to beat (and mine is std spec). So my opinion, the RS4 is a superb car, but at current S4 values is it 5 times better than an S4, I don't think so (not that I could afford one anyway) so perhaps wait until someone else has suffered the depreciation then have some fun.
