'Tis your vlaves that you need to worry about. I've heard of them going on highly strung remaped K04'd S3/TT/LCRs (so about 275-280bhp). I've been running standard valves for a year at 340bhp and no issues yet, other than a little nervousness on my part. Usually more to do with high rpms than power levels.

stock valves are good for really high power - it is the tuners philosophy on how high EGTs should be that will cause valves to go. A tuned car at 500bhp will not run higher egts than a tuned car at 280bhp. The valves will only bend whn you try to over rev the engines so the springs cannot close the valve before the piston comes up!
Cracks are caused by too high heat - egts - or some muppet putting plugs in too tight so the alloy head cracks with the extra tension by the steel plug.
