Mapped s3....= miles quicker

Post by B7B7B7 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 9:43 am

Hey all. Was just wundering if any 1 has had the same happen.

I bought my s3 'mapped' and have never driven a standard one so i dint realise how slow they were. Pulled up at a set of traffic lights at the weekend, and what pulls beside me.... a newer facelift s3 with a matureish driver behind the wheel (me been only 19) so the window goes down and i start chatting to the driver.....

1st question....... is it standard....driver replies yes....with a smile on his face coz he thinks his is faster as its the 225 facelift and mines not, not realising mines mapped but still looks standard ... a few other questions got asked when the lights went green and we both boot it. (Not speeding obviously as its illegal n all) the rate mine was pulling away was astounding (probably another 7-8ft a second quicker than his)

Any one no the 0-60 of a 260-270bhp s3??? same as a standard s4???

Yes, good chipped S3 is the same as a standard B5 S4 in a straight line. I did a few trackdays with folks from here with them, surprised me a bit :)

Well, on paper the 2000 2.7T A6 Auto should do 7.1s (230Bhp), mine did 5.9s chipped to 308Bhp with a Milltek.

Massive difference in performance (and sound!).

and surprisingly enough it didn't seem any quicker after repairing a leak on the inlet manifold and replacing a knackered MAF

Mine got a remap almost two years ago at AmD, have owned it four and a half, and the difference was noticeable immediately - off the mark, through the gears and so on. What took longer to realise was the effect of 33% more torque - not having to drop from 6th on the motorway, and just more pull.

A friend was considering one recently, and my advice was to keep it standard for 2-3 months then get the remap done so he would appreciate the difference.
