Does it stop dead suddenly (like it's blocked), or does it get slow then stop (increasing friction)?

it suddenly stops. ie when i open it, it slides all the way back no problems. i turn the 'knob' to close it, then it starts to move forward then suddenly stops about 1-2 inch form the end.... tried giving it a helping hand (pushing it slightly with my hands) but it wont budge, so i have to dismantle the interior light to manually wind it. looked for any thing stopping it ie things in the way of the runners but nothing. its not as if the motor dosent work as it moves forwards + backwards. could be a trip to audi me thinks..

This may sound silly but when you disconnect the battery do you have to reset the sun roof like you do the eleccy windows, so it knows the close position? Hmmm, It could be a mechanical linkage where it isn't set right, but in truth I don't know... I'm guessing it is caused by an incorrectly set zero position (closed).
Ok, I've just checked the service manual for the A6's sunroof and to adjust the zero position you need to remove the sunroof, and the sunroof motor; just checking it requires removal of the surrounding trim. I imagine the A/S3 is very similar.
I will send you what I have for the A6 and you can decide if you want to have a play.
