Hi

External dump valves don't work, plus you'll sound a <beep> ;)

Panel filters help the engine breathe better, not sure of the benefits if a standard engine.

I would recommend getting it chipped, approx. £500 and will increase to approx. 265bhp  If you do this, panel filter recommended. I have a Jetex one from Halfords, about £40.

Yeah leave the DV alone unless you go for a bailey piston recirculator type. Don't really need it unless your going for big power. Stay away from K & N filters they are good for most cars but alot of my friends have had problems with their maf's soon after fitting them to VAG cars. Jabbasport do a nice CAI kit. I recommend an exhaust and remap u can't go wrong and the difference will be very surprising.

Dave, out of interest, have u had your MAF checked since u fitted filter? I hear alot of mixed views on filters and oiling up the MAFs. I'm going to have my MAF cleaned twice a year and new one every 2yrs just to be sure. Don't wanna melt a piston now do we....

I have replaced the MAF thinking it would cure another problem, but it didn't :( I have had my filter in four about 3 years, cleaned it three times and oiled twice! I think over oiling it causes the MAF problem.....

How long are filters supposed to last, I know K&N are 1 million miles :?

They aren't all that expensive so i'd probably change it every 2yrs.

Is there any sound difference using an uprated panel filter? I'm undecided whether to stay standard or not with the air filter. I'm saving for the FMIC cos when it gets down to 12degrees or lower my car turns into a rocket.
