Does your S3 fuel pump prime when you open the door?

Hi,
Got problem with mine bad starting when left overnight, takes a lot of cranking before it catches and then it splutters unless I pause for a few secs from turning key to cranking after which it starts perfectly.
A mechanic asked me to check if I can hear the fuel pump prime on opening the door but it definitely doesn't. (Tried it on a V6 4mo and it does).
Obviously S3 is different car so I appeal to all you fellow forum members, can you tell me if yours does?
Ideally I'd like to know from someone who has left their car overnight or over say 12 hours as this would be when mine plays up.
Many thanks.

When I go to my car in the morning, I check that it is in neutral standing outside, turn the key to prime the pump, then start the car. I then put my bag in behind the seat, get in and go

You can definately hear the pump, but not sure if it does this all the time or just when left overnight, because I only do that procedure first thing.

Thanks Dave.
But do you hear the fuel pump prime on opening the drivers door?
[you can tell me tomorrow after it's been left overnight if you like just to be sure!]

Don't quite follow

I'm standing outside when I start it (hence checking it is in neutral) and I can hear the pump prime. It did this morning. If I go out lunchtime, i'll listen for it when I start it sitting inside.

Nothing to do with turning the ignition key.
Go to car, unlock with remote, go for door handle with your hand, as door opens, can you hear the fuel pump prime?
Some later VAG cars are designed to prime the fuel pump when the drivers door opens.
Thanks for your help so far

HHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhmmmm, that sounds a bit dangerous to me. How about if you keep opening and closing the door to clean it and put things in the back ...... is it going to keep priming every time ?!?!?!?!?

Nope, there appears to be a time delay.
Checked a Golf 1.8T (2002) and it does it!

BUMP!
Any S3 owner - do you here the fuel pump 'buzz' for 2 seconds when the drivers door is opened after car has been left for a few hours?
You can also here the buzz if you turn the ignition key but pause before you crank the engine.
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME THIS SIMPLE THING!
Thanks
