Hi all...my 1st post here, Im totally new to Audis...
Off to see an X reg 2001 facelift s3 today with 100k, but FASH....its cheap!
Other than the usual things to look out for on 2nd hand cars, is there anything particular to the s3 to look out for?
Any help most appreciated!

Hi, Have a good look throught the service history. Ring up the servicing dealer and ask them what work has been carried out on the car. Make sure the cam belt has been done and any warranty recall work too. Ask the owner how much oil it uses per 1000 miles and how often is the oil changed? The interior should still look very good and not worn anywhere except maybe the mats. Check the car pulls nicely from start and has not flat spots.
Good luck

Also check for any squeaking from the front suspension - worn bushes on the front anti-roll bar are a common complaint. A dealer will charge up to £300 for this.

I bought mine with 92k on the clock (2000 X reg) It had just had new clutch/flywheel, and had the camblet/water pump done at 80k. Since I have had it (now on 95k) its needed front and rear roll bars/bushes/drop links as it was squeaking and you could feel the movement in it. Feels alot better now, much tighter and no knocking. one of my Xenons went too and there not cheap to replace, as you cannot buy the ballast seperatley, so its £600, plus the bulb if they go (each side!!) I also needed a new middle exhaust box and a steering angle sensor (£100 just for the sensor!)
FASH is essential and it may be an idea to get it inspected by an AUDI dealer before buying (bit late for you on this one though I guess)
