Mtm chip - how to verify if you have one?

Hi guys I'm a new member from Auckland New Zealand and I need some help. I have a noggy blue 2001 S3. I was told by the dealer that I brought it off that it had an mtm chip and 250hp which I have begun to doubt big time.

Using a car performance computer I timed a 0-60 run the other night and it was just over the 7 second mark which is a lot slower than what mtm claim.

Is there any way that you can check whether the car has been chipped or not via diagnostic tests? I have spoken to the dealer (jag dealer) and asked for documentation about the chip and he simply told me that the last owner told him it was chipped and it felt like it had 250hp which is a poor cop out.

I'm going to get the car dynoed. What would you expect for a standard 210hp s3 at the wheels as opposed to a 250hp standard exhaust mtm s3?

I've searched the forums and I don't have a vagcom.

Thanks in advance

Vance :)

Hi mate :)

I suppose the best test would be to go out in another that is claimed to be standard, but that may be hard over there!

As for your 0-60 sprint, I think 7 seconds is slower than a standard car (think they are 6.7). Unless you are used to driving/testing cars, I doubt anyone can recreate the figures they quote!

If you did have Vagcom, it would show that the standard boost and torque limits had been exceeded...

According to the 'sticky' thread at the top of the S3 forum, standard 0-100kph (0-62mph) is 6.6 seconds.

Thanks. i don't think it was a particularly good run especially 2nd to 3rd gear change. Mine is the 210hp model which i thought was a bit slower than 6.6. Have got in contact with some one over here with a vagcom who has offered to help and failing that we wil pull the ecu out. I have been informed also that there should be a mtm sticker on the ecu etc.

Boost pressure would be up on standard 0.9bar.

Thanks guys. I realised with some embarrasssment that I had run a 0-60 test on an incline and have had confirmation by a different audi dealer over here that the car has an mtm chip.

I had a quick diagnostic check done today and the car has a sporadic fault. The code is 17704 P1296 035.

Any ideas what the fault might be. Is it the maf?
