You should also be able to find a second hand S3 engine cheaper than £3k I would imagine.... I would ring around all the 20VT tuners and see if they have one..... they normally have an eye on any engines kicking around. Try Pitstop developments, Jabbasport, dialynx and TSR etc etc
Mark.

Guy on tyresmoke had the same problem, he sourced a new engine as it was cheaper.
Try cupranet, tt-forum, tyresmoke to see if anyone knows of an engine
I would though get the engine built by Jabba to a better spec

3rd piston has melted at the back?? Due to running lean which in turn melted spark plug. Need a rebuild or new engine. I'll post up more details later.
RE: Oil spraying from filler cap!!!
Bad luck! really.. I wonder how many other S3/TT's have gone the same way? Also its got me thinking about whether this affects the BAM engine (que Dunc who is also has higher oil consumption??)..
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

also, did the dealer advise why the car was running lean? has it been remapped previously at all? dodgy MAF/induction leaks etc. It would be good to know their thoughts.

RE: Oil spraying from filler cap!!!
Totally standard car. If MAF goes dodgy car doesn't run well. Mine ran perfectly other than oil usage. Will have to rebuild engine to find out where fault is occurring. No fault codes or any indication of anything amiss. Will post photos over weekend. Maybe leak in gasket?? Who knows right now. I've spent 400quid already this month but realistically it's gonna cost £1000's to find out and fix. It's costing me 70quid a time to ferry it to and from garages but now it's going to be parked up for a bit while I start saving.

Darn, I feel really sorry for you.
I also think that a 2nd hand engine would be the cheapest and easiest route to take. Would be a quick swap too.

Here are some of the pictures taken of my car's engine following removal of the head. The first 3 clearly show damage to the No 3 piston and bore, including the melting of one side of the piston crown. The 4th shows all 4 pistons. Pictures of the valves are in my following post.

And here are a couple of pictures of the head showing the valves for No 3 cylinder and all the valves. Apart from some minor pitting between the 2 exhaust valves of the No 3 cylinder - and subject to the valve seats being repairable if damaged - the head will hopefully not need replacing. The 2 exhaust valves show signs of some pitting in the centre - more noticeable on the RH one in the photo. Unfortunately the No 3 spark plug is not available to photograph but, apart from showing signs of overheating, the only damage evident was that a very small piece of the centre ceramic insulator was missing.
