Diverter valve, Benefits????

Hey all
purchased a 2000 audi s3 last week and was thinking about getting a diverter valve for it. Have just got a few questions for any one who has got one.

Do they make more noise than the standard valve? (do not want it to sound too loud like a dump valve but would like maybe a little bit more noise than standard diverter)

Did you notice any real difference when you had the valve fitted?

What manufacturer would you guys recommend? Been looking at forge or amd (but if you know better let me know)

Also, been looking at the forge motorsport website and it has 2 types of valve, a fast road closed loop valve and a piston closed loop diverter valve. The first one states that it is suitable for all VAG 1.8T engines and the second one states that it is for all cars with air flow meters and shows it being fitted to an audi tt which has the VAG 1.8T engine??? so which one is the better valve?
Thanks

Aaron

I'm not really sure there are many benefits to changing this particular diverter valve IMHO. When I 'chipped' my old S3 most tuners were telling me to change the diverter at the same time to improve response. As it turns out the dv. on the S3 is a pretty good piece of kit to start with and many people are fitting it to other audis because of its effectiveness and reliability. It was even recommended recently by MRC for S4's. I went ahead and chipped the S3 on the recommendation of Dialynx with the original DV. and that made it produce more noise all on its own :D It saved me a tidy sum, which I was all ready to spend, and the car is still performing well 4 years on. I was told it was only worth replacing if it failed and then to go for a different one if I wanted but the original is likely to be just as good on this model. Plus it need no maintainence like some of the others.

Agree, dont bother paying out for another valve - the standard Bosch valve if it goes is very cheap and also doesnt need servicing like the other aftermarket ones.

They are a complete waste of effort on a standard or stage one car to be honest.

I have tried a few (foolishly beleiving the hype posted on forums) and found them to given inconsistent performance and on the whole deteriorate the throttle response (presumably by virtue of the increase in the internal volume and the mass of the moving components)

The latest revision Bosch ones give, by far, the best performance and at £30 or so mean you can carry a spare just in case.

The argument is stronger on higher boost cars (i.e. those with aggressive remaps, boost machines, N75 mods etc) as the diaphragm cannot hold the pressure on such cars... In which case the piston DVs all do pretty much the same thing with different levels of visual bling.

Absolutely no problems with my forge dv007p with the standard spring.

Hi guys - just popped in to say hello!

As stated above, the standard S3 DV's are more than adequate. I've just bought 2 710N's for my S4 on the recommendation of MRC, as the stock S4 ones are crap. The Forge items are no better, are more expensive, and require maintenance.
