Hi - came across this site whilst searching for advice for my S3. I am new to the S3 but have had a couple of Audi's in the past.

My front disc need replacing. So I am thinking of upgrading the discs all round with non-oem.
Any advice or experiances with different set-ups would be welcome. I am not looking to track the car so it will just be for fast road use. At present my Golf GTI(TDI) is kicking the arse of my S3 in the brake department, not good.

I am also interesting in increasing the power with a chip/ecu upgrade. Can you offer advice and experiance of different solutions?

Welcome - loads of options remap wise - checkout Revo, AMD, MTM etc etc. I favour Revo as I think it is the best for the 1.8T engine, they offer serial port tuning which is also fine-tunable via a dongle type device.

Brake wise, I've been there many times before - if you want superior braking performance then you've got to be prepared to spend more money on the best out there. Options for you are AP racing, Brembo ( as fitted to the Seat Leon Cupra R) and the AMD Porsche 993TT big upgrades. If you do just replace the discs, you're better off with grooved rather than drilled and also consider extra cooling. AMD used to supply grooved discs which are a direct replacement (but I warped a set - probably due to be being a bit too enthusiastic with them!)

Cheers. Yeah I know there are several options for both brakes and the remap. Just trying to get a flavour of other users opinions. I almost bought a 2001 with the usual MTM exhaust, Revo adjustable chip, RS4 wheels. But it had done 60k (mine is on 37k) and looked a bit worn on the inside. It was from Fountain motors near Slough.
I get a feeling AMD are favoured aswell for the remap so will have a look at both. Ref the brakes I guess as long as they are grooved and I get better pads I will notice an improvement over the OEM. And as I am not tracking that should do fine for me.

I suppose my next question will be around the best place for the remap. Have you had yours done?

There is no right or wrong answer regarding remaps for the 1.8T - you just need to try them if possible and settle on the one which suits you best. This also extends to how the remap is fitted on the car - some serial tune, others solder chips! Try searching on this and other forums and you'll understand what i'm saying. There has been many (sometimes heated) discussions on remaps and tuners.

Revo remap wise, I deal with Wheelbase in Hersham, Surrey (http://www.mega4.co.uk/) - they updated my code yesterday FOC and swapped my old SPS3 device for a new one. Simon, the guy who handles the Revo remapping has an S3 himself which is often used for development and is very helpful etc.

Brake wise, to be honest, you'll not see a drastic difference just replacing the discs and pads - the stock S3 caliper is only a single piston type and is not really up to the job of enthusiatic driving/braking. In fact if you use the wrong compound pad, then the increased friction will only lead to warping! Again, have a search on here - this one has been discussed many times.

Think I'l just get some OEM discs for now and investigate further. Looks like I'll need to spend some cash to upgrade the calipers aswell to see any benefits.
