I've just bought a used Audi S3 that has been chipped by AMD. As the car is already chipped I have no comparison of what is "normal" so would appreciate help/comments on the following :

1. the boost comes in in a noticeable surge. I have a friend who's car is APR chipped and his is much more linear in its delivery. Does anyone else have an AMD car that does this? Does anyone know if AMD would do a remap to iron this out?
2. there are approx three flatspots in the rev range as the power is delivered. Again is this an AMD characteristic and could they remap it?

3. However, the biggest irritation is that the engine continues to rev slightly when changing gear after accelerating at full power. At part throttle it does not do this, but on full throttle (even when deliberately lifting off the gas before depressing the clutch) the engine will rev a couple of hundred revs after lifting off? Is this a normal S3 trait or an engine management issue?

Hi.

Flat spots and engine revving after lift off point towards a bad MAF in my experience. I had a bad MAF (air flow meter) in my S3, and when replaced, it stopped the revving issue, and another instance I know of it cured hesitation. For £90 exchange from your dealer it should be worth a try for sure.

Amd is pretty hard on the torque then flat at the top, where as APR is more linear. Sounds normal to me.

Ben, Point 3 sounds normal to me - my car has done this from new and two other S3s I have driven also do this (one APR and one stock). This has also been asked a few times on the TT-forum and most replies indicate its normal...

True, but depends to what extent. Certainly the revs don't drop back quickly, but with modern emmisions and the heavy dual mass flywheel you can't expect miracles.
But I did notice a difference with a new MAF, to the extent that I stalled the car a few times as I had to keep more throttle on when doing slow manouvers, whereas before the car would keep the revs up itself more.
