On paper it looks the buisness.
Any thought on release/price?

Have driven the new 3.2 v6 A3 250bhp and its impressive!
Bolt on a pair of turbos.....350bhp...thats very near the current RS4 bhp.
With the weight issue between the two cars, the new RS3 should be hugely quick!

Yeah i would defo be interested!
Cheers for the info.

I am going to wait and see what the new S3 looks like first - and anyway I would first talk to SportImport before going through a UK stealer

You might have a long wait! Some rumours suggest that there won't be an S3, just an RS3.

I'll believe it when I see it.... funny how we're hearing more rumours about the RS3 than the S3, which I'd have thought there is actually more probability of there being an S3..

Sounds great in principle, but no doubt will end up costing closer to £40k with the desired goodies on. If you can get a £30k Mini then I'm sure you can get a £40k+ small Audi.

Cheers

After the rumours about a RS3 being reviewed in a mag next week I asked my contact at Audi UKduring last week.

This is what I was told :

Currently no such car exists.

Audi are planning on introducing an S3 but the engine/power etc are still under discussion.

Time frames for the S3 are likely to be approx 12 months from the introduction of the A3 Sportback (the name of the 5 door variant - N.B. NOT avant). This therefore seems unlikely until the end of 2005/beginning of 2006.

There are currently no plans to introduce an RS3. It is not even on the design plans that Audi UK are looking at and these run up to at least 2007. If an RS3 was to come out then, in keeping with Audi's lifecycle, it would be about 2 years after the S3 i.e. 2007/8.

My sources both jounalists have categorically said that definately this car is being made, and Autocars Statement leads me to believe that the rumours are true.
I know someone who has put £500 on the table yesterday at a Audi dealer and they have taken it!

If I was a dealer and some one wanted to give me £500 for a car that's not announced I'd also say yes regardless of whether it would happen. ;-)

I hope the person you know realises that it doesn't get them any position in Audi's ordering book as the book isn't open.

Perhaps I could set up an order book for RS3s and get £500 interest free loans for 2 or 3 years!!!
