4wd System Capabilities

Post by Quik_S3 » Tue Apr 13, 2004 12:09 pm

Anyone know what kind of power the 4wd system is capable of handling?

Looking to take mine (when I get it, 2001 model) to around 350bhp (1.8bar boost constant) using a Garrett T3, anyone know if I will need new diffs etc or will the 4wd system cope with it?

Also anyone know any problems I might come across while doing the conversion.

Already got:

Garrett T3 Turbo
RS500 Intercooler
Dastek Fuel Controller
Signal Conditioner
MF2 for Fueling (with injectors)

Obviously not everything I need (yet)

Anyone forsee any problems?? Clutch, pistons etc??

Cheers for any help,

Pete. :D

Well.. I´ve the opportunity to go on a ride at the passenger´s seat of a 00´S3 with 363 hp at the wheels.. it is incredibly fast, the sound of the car is amazing and the brakes really work.. If you wanna take a look at it just visit this website: www.herreramotors.com.br and click on S3...there you can download the movie...

AMD, JABBA and MTM both offer approx 350 bhp conversions for the S3/TT with standard drivetrain etc, so in theory you should be okay?

Garrett T3 Turbo why a T3 and on what manifold? If you are going to all the grief of fitting a big turbo to an S3,you'd be far better off fitting something better, such as Jabba's IHI or MTM's K26 with external wastegate.

RS500 Intercooler where are you going to fit it?an RS500 cooler is huge,I dont think you'll have enough room for a full height cooler like that.

Dastek Fuel Controller
Signal Conditioner
MF2 for Fueling (with injectors) you dont need all this add on modular gear, thats a very Japanese approach to tuning, loads of independant controllers and modules and gadgets to play with. All you need is a reprogrammed std ECU combined with bigger injectors.

Each of the companies mentioned have put a lot of time into developing their respective kits,to be honest you'd be better off buying a sorted kit from one of them rather than trying to re-invent the wheel with all the bits you have mentioned. The last issue is that the people capable of mapping a stock management system to cope with the kit you have fitted(QST,Jabba,AMD)may not want to do it,for obvious reasons.

Cheers

Clutch will probably need an upgrade yes, as it is considered to handle well up to 370-380Nm. There are some chipped S3 with around 400Nm but it seems that already here the clutch's life risks to be significantly shortened. So I guess if you re getting 350PS you ll have more than 400Nm

Reason I have gone for the MF2 fuel system is because have used it on alot of other cars, and it works very very very well, and it is also very easily adjusted and I can map that system myself, just makes life a tad easier for me, yea I know very Jap style but its working out cheaper and I would rather stick to the system I know and love. M-Developments who I know well used it on (not the best example) a load of Saxos and they are running silly powers for small cars, fastest so far is 300bhp with a Rotrex Supercharger, should see it eat M3's along the motorway :)

As for the T3 etc, just thought I would be different, don't know anyone thats done it to the S3 before :) will be alot of work but also alot of fun :) Going off the T3 idea though, was very tempted to wack a massive Rotrex charger on it but I am stuck in 2 minds, don't see the point in changing the turbo for a charger really, no lag, less drag and seriously low charge temps on the rotrex is a good reason I suppose, but I am still stuck on what to do lol.
