Been thinking about a brake upgrade before i get my chip,i noticed some people have got a brembo kit and some have a porsche 993 kit are there any others and what is the best?What spec are the standard brakes?regards Ryan

Audi caliper is a single piston (quite a large one at that) setup. some people get fade on the road with standard brakes but not me. They are not up to the track for me. You can also get Movits (from Kim Collins), basically the same as the Porsche setup. I would say Movits or Porsche are the best, but they do come at a price. The Porsche setup has been tested on track and they are the dogs (looks and performance). Depends if you want fast road only, then the brembos gran turismo (as fitted to the Cupra R - [img]images/graemlins/24430-audibash.gif[/img]) are probs second best, then you have the EBC/tarox/pagid path of pads and maybe grooved rotors.

Rears are not necessary to upgrade imo

Porsche here and more than happy. Standard S3 brakes are woeful in the wet.

rears not worth it other than cosmetic to match the front. they are only responsible for approx 20% of the braking force.

Ryan, most popular is AmD's kit.
that what Dunc, Sita(had), Hopsta, Mick and myself have. S8N has the same kit, sourced from all over the place [img]images/graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

They are OEM 993 bi turbo calipers, rotors, pads, and in my case pad sensor too.

Hats and brakets are custom made for job for amd by west tuning.

For 16/17" rims with minimum 365mm ID
Porsche 993 bi-turbo 4 piston aluminium callipers, 36/44mm piston diameter
Porsche 993 bi-turbo discs, 322 x 32mm vented with cast-in holes
Porsche 993 bi-turbo genuine pad set for street use (75.5cm2)
Kit includes custom adapters for a.m. callipers, CNC machined from highest grade steel alloy and custom brake bells for a.m. discs, CNC machined from highest grade aluminium alloy



Tho Forge and Movit (Qstuning.co.uk) sell similar kits.


Brembos are cheaper, but inferior in comparrison.

they do not have floating two piece set up, disks are drilled IIRC and not as thick, and are not best suited for the Heavy S3 when pressing on....

after a session on the same circuit, same cars, the brembos were 100 degrees hotter than the Porsche, and warped.

17" Avus do not require spacers
18" RSTT 9 spokes do (10mm min) on front to clear the back of the spokes. Most choose to put 10 or 15mm spacers on rear at same time to match and for cosmetics.

Because we can't get the kit downunder without paying a fortune, I sourced my parts as follows:

Forge Motorsport : Hats/Brakcets (yet to order)
Porsche Australia : Rotors, Calipers, Pads
Local Workshop: Fluid, Lines

still have my porsche brakes - The plan is that I'm gonna fit them to my S4 when I get chance (and new adapters!).

Porsche set up that Paul outlines is best really if you want/expect the best from your brakes (especially on our heavy cars!!) - don't bother trying cheaper ones - you'll only waste your money as you will buy the Porsche/Movit design set up ultimately when you've destroyed your lesser upgraded ones!!

Floating discs better as they don't warp (as much!) after heavy use

Better cooler direct ventilation is the way to go and the front-end design of our Audi's don't help there unfortunately.

you really dont realise how good the Porsche have become (after bedding in) untill you take them off.

like i did with changing s3's.
