Golf R32
Golf R32
Having listen to all the hipe about the R32 I was in 2 minds to px in the S3.
That was until I bought the Top Gear magazine and read the owners survey.
Ok the A3 came 52nd I think but look where the Golf came
Shame on you VW.
The S3 is here to stay.

Bass,
drive one and then make up your own mind.
I've not driven an R32 and S3 back to back, but have had a drive of an R32 and think it is a cracking car.
Cheers,
John.

Re: Golf R32
Drove the R32 last week, as you say cracking car, but £1900 for leather, less boot space and a PX value on my 2001 S3 of £14000 no way. Not spending £11000 on a car that is not THAT different. ie 3 door hatch, AWD, 250 BHP.

You should have told him he had his numbers back to front !
I agree, I wouldn't swap from an S3 to an R32 if the price difference was so significant. I suspect the tradein for the S3 would be silly regardless what you were after though, and it doesn't mean the R32 is any less a good car, eh

Re: Golf R32
I`m going to be getting a R32 next year hopefully once ive sold my S3, due to a business issue i need to input some money and selling the S3 is the only option... im gutted but changing to a R32 makes it a little easier.... better than no car at all!
I will probably keep the R32 until i can afford a proper audi.... RS car
I will miss it like the last car before my audi... good memories of the car etc etc.
Most people tend to compare the R32 and S3 but in reality they are somewhat different cars with different good points and bad points.
Handling, performance, steering feel, throttle respone, engine, exhaust etc are as good as if not better than a standard S3.
Audio, interior finsish is not on par with the S3 nor is the image.... but its a though trade-off.
I was going to buy another brand new S3 unregistered import but it was priced high at £24,995. and if directly compared to the R32 its a logial decision to go for the R32... ok its not a audi and doesnt have the same image but for a car to fill the gap i couldnt find anything better....
I wasnt going to leave the VAG branding either to the R32 was the only option as a next car until i can afford a Quattro GmbH produced car.
I still love audi`s and respect them very much indeed... some may say ive made the wrong choice in going for a R32 next but given the circumstances its a logical choice when compared to the competition......

Re: Golf R32
so if £24K is the going rate why are they selling them for £34-38K, could easily afford the extra fuel at £24k

Riz i'm puzzled by this - the R32 is more money for essentially the same car, a new model golf is nearly out and the R32 will soon start to depreciate heavily (can now buy ones for 21k)!! AND you are paying a VW dealer to hold the car until April 2004 IIRC??? have I missed something??
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.
Re: Golf R32
I highly doubt that a new R32 will be out in the next 2 years.
I delayed the delivery unit march 2004 for the new registeration and no matter what people say the registration plate DOES affect resale values, especially when most dealers go by registration, manufacture year and mileage 3dr/5dr.
They way i see it the current S3 has taken a battering on 2nd hand values mainly due to the R32 and its price/package.
The S3 will take another big hit once a new S3 comes out.... so selling it now seem`s agood idea especially due to the financial situation.
The S3 is a good car but the R32 much better
In future im going to stick to car`s which have been made in relatively small numbers.... abit like my 206 GT (600 RHD`s) or the RS cars!
Until i can afford a RS car im going to keep to my small cars and work my way up..... ok the gap from a S3 to Golf isnt that big but it is a better package.

Re: Golf R32
I would reckon you'll loose more money buying the R32 than the S3. Look at the VR6 lets say. Not many people want a big 3Lr engine in a small car because of the running cost involved. Being an ex VR6 owner I know how much petrol they use I suggest fitting a tow bar and hooking up a petrol pump to it.

Re: Golf R32
Residuals have been good on the R32 recently but buying an old shape car next year when the new one will actually already be available in this country might be a bit of a loser. Have you considered a MK V 2.0 FSI Golf (150 bhp) or even the new A3 (not 3.2Q) as the residuals will be better for a year at least?
maybe??

Re: Golf R32
I have to agree with the others.
putting a car away fro 6 months only to get a newer reg will not make it worth that much more.
The R32 is a cracking car, but the first ones in the country will have been around for over a year by then, so unless you are getting a very very very special price, I'd let it go and simply look to see what the best deal is when you are ready to buy again.
The R32s aren't making money over book any more, so you've already mised the boat on this one.
Just my opinion
Cheers,
John.
