Anybody know how this is powered in the S3 and is it possible to have a swapable boot sub-installed without running new wiring.

Riz its powered by the BOSE amp and wiring is direct to there also. Unfortunatley you cant simply remove the old and chuck a new one in there it wont work. U could replace ur headunit, use the bose amp for the speakers and buy a self powered sub and have that run directly from ur HU.
Follow ?

Cheers

Uffff forget that then..... i was thinking of a temp unit running of the oem wires and amp, something i could chuck in the boot when required and when it needs to be taken out its just a matter of swapping the cables...

After hearing track 5 of the linkin park cd it did give me a insight that the bose system isnt as bad as i thought, it all depends on the cd recording`s.

Cheers for the info

I hear a lot of people dissin the Bose setup and if ur using the original HU then yes i can agree with them only to an small extent. BUT change the HU for a decent one and ur views will definately change about the Bose. Im running my DVD Sat nav system through the Bose amp and speakers, and it sounds fanatastic. The bass is very noticable and ok its not like having 2 great big 12 inchers thumping ur back but it is good. The speakers are very good too.

Incase u havent seen my set up have a look HERE

Cheers

Yes ive seen your ICE and must say once again its the dogs

I`m running a standard bose S3 setup and must say im still very happy with it, coming from a 206 it was a massive improvement.

I always thought about a ICE system but i think im going to wait until i get my next long term car..... RS3/4

btw if i was to buy a head unit what would you suggest going for to improve the quality, ive always heard that pioneer and alpine are up there.
I wouldnt want to spend much and it would just be for my cd`s.

Always try to buy the best that u can afford and dont waste money on getting it fitted. Yes Alpine are up 'there' where ever that may be but ur paying a lot for their name like Sony Tvs. Have a look at one that has got the feature that u need and also how many useful things are in it and how many gimmicks too. Remember u can always take it out when u sell it and put the car back to original.
If ur going to listen to alot of cd's and dont want to have to fork out for a new cd changer too then look into a cd head unit and if ur a radio listener too then get one that u can add a DAB unit to it too. DAB is different class altogether.
Any questions get back to me

Oh yeah dont forget to add the cost of a Bose line converter at about £40 and a fascia plate about £15 into ur equation.

My car has Bose and the Chrous II fitted with cassette but with 6CD in the boot. I thought of changing up to the Symphony single CD unit. Wonderedif this will improve the audio?

Whilst on the subject of stereos, my Concert system front passenger speaker isn't sounding too good.

It sounds terrible when there is quite a lot of bass. But sounds worse if you are outside with the door closed, e.g. cleaning car with music on.

Went to local shop, Bass Junkies, and they said that with the 9 speaker system I have, that there is an amplifier on the back of each speaker?!?!?!?! So to replace speaker, I also need amplifier and wiring etc, to the tune of £460 fitted.

Is this right?

LOL !! Ur avin a larf aint ya !! Mate they are trying to rip u off and unfortunately they would probably get away with it if u werent a member of sucha superb forum like this( do i get a promotion for saying that ?) If its still working on low volumes then it could be ok. Does it sound rattly from the outside of the car but ok inside ? How does it sound when ur in the car ? U may have torn the paper cone and it could be flapping on higher volumes.
If it is damaged then ur better off just replacing them with decent component speakers .
