Avus Rims

Post by david7m » Tue Sep 30, 2003 10:33 pm

Have S3 with 17 inch Avus rims.

At the dealer the other day (exhaust issue's?!?!?!?) and wasn't sure if I seen a car drive past with 18 inch ones on it, do they exist?

If so, will they fit staight on, as think it would like the nuts with the right style rims, but bigger!!

I think 18" Avus design alloys came on the bigger S cars... if at all..... S3`s PCD (alloy fitment) doesnt really allow a straight swap off alloys from other models.... have you seen the RSTT 18" alloys... i like them.

Like 'em, what tyres are they?

Looks like you've got a mint motor there, the paint looks the nuts!

They are the Audi RSTT alloys which were a option on the Audi S3 options list.
The paint was a special order paint, its Misano Red which originated from the Audi RS4 Quattro GmbH paint colour.

I`ve still got the original tyres on it which are Michelin Pilot Sports 225/18". I would say they are good but im not a trackday driver, grip in dry and wet is ok for my use and i still have 5mm left on them evenly worn. they have done 17300miles so far.

I brought mine second hand from dealer. It had done 19k and needed new tyres then, the worn ones were P6000's, maybe there softer?

Could well be, every tyre has different characteristics. I used to own a 206 and that had Pilot Sports too... had 24,500miles on them and they were still legal.

Others on here have them jap brands etc because they grip better etc but it all depends on what you want.

I would say the Pilots are good all round tyres.

Riz

p.s. Mine had just under 2000miles when i bought it off a forum member. at the time it was the best option for me.

the P6000's are a softer compound and do wear out pretty quickly but u have to weigh whether u want more miles or more grip. All about compromise !
I had the P6000's on my S3 as the first set and they were starting to wear down by 13k, Im now running Toyo Proxes T1-s and find them fantastic for both wet and dry grip. How many miles ? well time will tell !!
