Has anyone else experienced what I am can only describe as a 'rattling clutch'?

I can notice it at tickover, especially this evening, sounds a bit pants, but pressing the clutch peddle makes all the noise dissapear.../

Hi Dunc,

I had the same on my old A3, a clacking sort of noise. Does it increase in frequency with engine revs? It progressively got worse and so did the clutch. My brother now has the car and the clutch has had it. He's scared to get it fixed incase it's something like the flywheel It could be the release bearings? If it's the same thing then I wouldn't panic about it failing soon, it's 20,000 miles later on the A3 and it's still going

Cheers

Ben

Ben,

It doesnt increase with engine revs, although a different 'clacking' noise I had, that did increase with revs was supposedly diagonosed as a new cam follower (replaced under warranty) - although that noise is still there but quieter - and it is only when the car is cold.
