Don't really know where to start with the mods. The obvious like suspension, strut braces, bushes, anti roll bars I assume are easy obtainable? I imagine engine mods are very limited unless you go to the expense of forced induction? Would a full system stainless, de-cat and map see much difference or hardly worth it? If so, where is the favoured workshop preferably near the north east?

Sorry for all the questions, I am brand new to bmw.

Take it out as is first and see where you think it's lacking. Likely suspension and braking would only be required to make it more focused. I wouldn't bother with power mods really, you'll not gain much and could arguably gain more by losing some of the interior weight.

Yeah, what you say makes sense. The only thing I have against taking interior out is the chances are, I may take it too far and not be able to get it back to how it should be. Storage is a slight issue also. I will try to leave it how it is if I can, maybe suspension like you say. I have read the E46 330i brakes are a great trade. You need the carriers and calipers and apparently the disks are cheaper than the E36 M3's as well. I will look into this more.

The standard e36 m3 disks are floating compared to most after market, if the brakes aren't great, check they've got standard disks.

I put eibach pro street s on mine, with poly bushes Nearly all round, but e30 arb bushes as they're cambered.

If you really want to go banzai though, the pss9s are the most focused!

Sorry to drag up an old thread but back on the lookout for something. The m3 is getting kept the way it is. I am thinking evo 6 onward but just don't know :?

The Evo 6 is a great car but almost a little 'too good'. I drove an Evo rs extreme on slicks and it was simply untouchable. It's like that Gtr knob video - you really can drive any line and mash away at the steering / throttle and still go fast.
So really depends what you are looking for as a driver. Front engined / rwd is a good compromise between fun and controllability. Mid and rear engine rwd ultimate (imo) trickier but more rewarding when you get it right.

Well with what Ads said that would put you firmly in the vircinity of a Porsche Boxster for affordable mid engined cars.

Have you tracked the M3 yet though?

I have just put a deposit down on a 996 911 turbo. I am sure I will have fun in that. I am going to track all 3 of them. I pussy foot around too much and have decided that they are just cars and it's no good getting too attached. They were built for a purpose. They will all be looked after and well maintained so why not? :D

I've had the old e36 m3, 996 c4s and rs6 all round the 'ring. It's what they're for :)

Great decision mate.

Which has been your favourite on track? Probably the m3 was it? Exactly right mate :)
One thing that wouldn't go a miss would be a trailer or a truck... I am getting a spare set of wheels for the 911 and will probably fit them with a set of track tires. I might do the same with all of them tbh, that way I won't be risking a drive home on shredded tires.

996 :) though the m3 would have been easier to dump and run if Id have stacked it :)
