Well let me introduce you to my very own Diva , it's a 2002 S3 1.8T with a TTS Roadsport 325BHP 2860 big turbo kit fitted. This kit had been fitted in 2009 so had proved itself reliable over a few years with no issues at all.
My ownership of her started this summer after I was discussing possibly selling my QS BT and getting two cars instead , one for the daily drive ( My gorgeous TT V6 ) and another for a bit of track fun and for taking to trade shows like ADI etc
Within a few days I had made my mind up ( I dont hang around !! ) and had put the QS up for sale and had bought the S3 for a favourable price.
The modding then began on the V6 ( Covered in the MK1 section) and I began to consider what to do with the S3 , first on my list was the mapping as I am not the worlds greatest fan of REVO stage 3 and could feel the car wasn't giving all it could.
So a trip to see my friend Wak was booked for him to investigate the mapping and obviously improve it.
The trip there went very badly with a heavy misfire becoming apparent on the A11. It had all the hallmarks of a coilpack failure and that seemed to be the initial consenus when Wak looked at it. The car was left with him for more investigation and fitted with new redtop coilpacks. But Wak wasn't convinced about the car and was confident the compression was down . He was proved right when Dean from 4Rings gave a second opinion and confirmed this to be the case.
So what were the options ?? Well their were not many that didn't involve spending quite a bit of money. The car was dispatched to TSR performance and they diagnosed a cracked cylinder head !! The only answer was a recon head and a complete engine rebuild. This seemed to be the ideal opportunity to reinforce the engine ready for track driving so I ended up with the following :
List of work carried out :
TSR engine rebuild carried out August 2012 including :
Reconditioned cylinder head , uprated pistons , Wossner uprated conrods , uprated supertec inlet and exhaust valves , new cambelt kit and water pump , headset , new red top coil packs , new spark plugs and fluids.
HG Motorsport Front mounted intercooler.
Whilst at TSR I also had a set of Rear tarox brakes with Ferodo pads fitted and had a set of Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 tyres too. All this extra work was in addition to the below which had already been done.
Previously carried out by TTS Roadsport :
Original 18" TT Quattro Sport alloys with 235/40/18 tyres
Brembo GT junior front brake kit
Milltek exhaust
Weitec coilovers
Forge short shifter
Forge 007 DV
Uprated anti roll bars with Superpro bushes
But this wasn't the end of the story. When Wak got the car back from TSR to complete the mapping , the clutch was slipping on full boost. Oh no more expense was my initial reaction , but then as Wak said now is the time to uprate to make it super tough so I ordered an Awesome Uprated solid flywheel kit which was duly fitted.
Then after some long nights for Wak trying to get the car sorted for me ready for ADI , I finally collected it and boy oh boy did it feel great , hugely responsive and with no rear seats adding to the lightweight feel it flew !!
But still the story doesn't stop their. After 3 laps at Castle Combe with a passenger the car lost power and I pulled back in. Wak investigated and between a few of us realised that a turbo bolt had come clean off and another hanging out. I was not a happy bunny .
So the car was taken back to TSR and fitted with stage 8 turbo bolts and then after a hell of a long day for James and I we collected it and made our way to the RR day at Powerstation.
Then the good news starts !! The car felt fantastic and on the rolling road it made 349BHP and 299.8 LBFT with a great torque curve which makes the car really driveable and it really flies too. Thank you Wak for such a great map.
Still a few more jobs to do though , I need a set of Pole Positions to complete the interior as I have a set of Seat Leon Cupra seats at the moment.
And am due to get some defcon bushes up front very soon and I will just lower the Coilovers slightly at the same time.
So for the time being Project Diva is behaving herself. Lets hope it continues !!
