MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
Re: MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
VST, do you know what is required for a RHD car? I know the kit is designed for LHD cars... Apparently some parts are modified??
The kit is $10k USD, with the aussie dollar the way it is, that isnt a bad price for 350ponies or tuning potential to it!
The 2.0litre kit is intresting as well!!!
Would you know the figures for the MTM 330hp kit & the 2litre conversion in power/torque outputs? Is the 2litre conversion something you are considering down the line??

@s8n
My car(and kit) are RHD.
Basically its a completely different setup that was developed by Kim Collins(Qst) in the UK,using the LHD kit as a starting point.
The best of the cars fitted with this kit make 345-350 bhp, they all make 330bhp+. I think Rob Beves TT was measured at 330lb ft of torque at a TTOC rolling road day last year.
The strongest car I have heard about was MTMs own yellow tuner gp car,a quoted 387bhp,2 litre bottom end,K26/27 hybrid turbo, race fuel pumps, etc etc.
The 2 litre conversion is aimed at improving off boost performance and response although it would have to add a few bhp.
Would I consider it?
If(when! ) I blow up what I have,or it starts to get tired, then I'll think about it,it only really makes sense in the context of an engine rebuild being required.
If you're serious, give Kim a call at Qst,see what he has to say.

Hi Tom
Ah, so its designed for the the RHD, this is good as AU cars are RHD. Problem is maps... And I have a APR chip.
And, its $10k USD or $10K pounds?

Has anyone had a problem with the turbo gasket blowing on this conversion?

Re: MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
I had my TT converted early in 2002 and I'd go along with what VST says. When I had it mapped it pulled 352PS and 412Nm on mtm's rollers. It then measured 330bhp and 330 lb/ft torque at Interpro last year, but I'm sure it would have pulled more if they'd strapped it down (as mtm did), since they had problems with tyres not gripping the rollers. Also, I'd changed to a Ramair induction kit by then and less than a month later the air mass meter failed. After a new MAF and now back to standard airbox, it feels as fast as ever.
If you decide to go for it, just make sure you uprate the clutch & brakes to match

those modifications never make sense. only fun.

I feared that answer. this means another 3000 EUR for Breakes and Stuff.

the bigger the turbo, the more pressure it needs. thats ok for me

That´s what I like about turbos. You can drive them smooth in the city...

no problem, German Autobahn
I had my S3 at 270 km/h (speedo) hunting a M5
BTW: did you know that the AC turns off at max Speed ?

I don´t care about fuel. If I would, I would buy a A3 TDi.

Did you had the chance to put your car to the top ? Meaning: really do full speed ?

Re: MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
Its also worth remembering that APR can do a turbo upgrade conversion for the S3 with anticipated figures or well over 300bhp.
Re: MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
I believe the APR conversion is for LHD only, which would suit Yogi, but not any UK or Australian owners.
@Yogi,
No,I havent had the car flat out yet, mental top speed doesnt really interest me,its acceleration I'm after.

Re: MTM S3 - 350 BHP - Experiences ?
Speaking to my APR dealer, the RHD conversion for the S3/TT (APR Stage III ) is in development, the APR office in Alabama recieve their RHD cuts apparently mid Feb 2004 and they will contuine then.
Most of the kit is ready, its just downpipes and tuning thats required..
There is a conferance in March for the APR dealers, I should have more info then.
I believe power is in the 320HP + range and they WILL be using a Garrett GT based turbo..
Its definately a kit Ill be looking closely at once its out..
