'Chip it' (Re-map the ECU) £500 for a few of the basic ones. Very little hassle.

well A remap will take you safely to 260bhp. But I think you need to get to grips on the costs.... the S3 is gonna cost you twice as much in running costs than a 1.2 clio! Ie when you need to chage all 4 tyres more regularly because of the 4wd, tyres will be twice as much each. Remaps will cost you between 350 and 500 depending on where you go and different companies will quote different things.
Ask about and try different companies buT i would start with www.MRCtuning.com
Seem to know there stuff....
Hope that helps.

Physics of performance if More fuel= performance, so a chip will still decrease you MPG (but not by HUGE amounts) you could still hopefully return 28mpg if you drive like a granny. BTW good choice on car!
Mark.

A simple re-map on its own is more likely to give you 40-45bhp. The 1.8T engine from an S3/225TT is good for around 300bhp without major engine modification so 250/260 is not likely to affect reliability. It is a tried and tested mod for these engines and I'm not aware of any reliability issues. My old S3 is running around 270bhp (with a Milltek exhaust and re-map) It still runs fine and has been faultless for the past 3 years and 35000 miles :D All high performance engines need proper servicing though.

'Best ones' come down to personal choice really. Mine was a Revo and it was great. Wouldn't chose their re-map for my RS4 but I would recommend their 1.8T job. I think it gave the best results for a decent price. Where are you based as you will need a good local specialist to do it? That might sway your decision as to which one to choose.
