Removing the Cats

Post by chris22 » Sun Jan 11, 2004 10:54 pm

Can anyone help here?
Im wanting to remove the cats!!
Is it just the case of taking them off and replacing them with a cat replacment pipe or is there more to it than that?
I was concerned about disrupting the ECU!

Have the by-pass pipes got provisions for the lambda sensor(s)?

Dave Cav did have a cat pipe for sale on this forumHere

I remember telling him on as.net that the S3 has two lambda sensors (1 before and 1 after the cat) and these need to be taken into consideration otherwise the ECU gets nasty and throws error codes/goes into limp mode.

IIRC Dave's cat pipe has these sensors so maybe ask him for more info.

Are you the same 'BASS' as the one on Tyresmoke? if so why are you bothering with this if you want to trade in for a Porsche?

I wouldn't bother Bass.

I fitted a de-cat pipe on a previous car and the results were naff. Also gave me a headache on the motorway!!
Got to be the youngest here?

Cheers,I don't think I'll bother.
Yes I was looking at the 4S and M3 but after I found out what they were going to give me for my S3 I would be mad. Robbing fcukers. Top book for theirs and bottom book for mine
I bought the car new 6 months ago and never thought I would loose so much money.
I done a favour for my mate who works for an exhaust company and in return Im getting an exhaust, he said he could take the cats out and replace with a pipe hence asking for advice.
I would of still got the exhaust if the S3 was going anyway and sold it on.
So the good ole S3 is here to stay
Bass.
