fitting cruise control

Post by chris22 » Wed Dec 17, 2003 11:21 pm

having read the post in tuning it was stated that you can fit cruise by buying the oe stalk and mess about with the wiring, Audi could then activate the cruise in the ecu with the relevant software.
I rang audi Sunderland who said it was news to them
Is this true?
Does anyone know of a place in the north east who can fit cruise?

yes you can retro fit it. Amd Did my first s3. It was £175 and vat now its £275 and vat.

any apr dealer your way should also be able to fit it for a fee. their switchable chip depends on cruise being retro fitted.

it can also be DIY fitted, but involves wiring, removing the steering wheel and airbag. And in my case "breaking in" to the ecu cage to wire in extra cables required, then coding with vag com.

its the breaking into to my ecu cage that i dont like the idea of. Its secured with shear bolts that snap off. so you can easily see an ecu been tampered with.

kinda defeats the object of serial tunng if you get cruise retrofitted.

The security cage is fitted to S3's atleast from march 2002, and i think it come into effect nov 2001 with the 225 engine.

dealers wont know, or want to know anything about retro fitting kit.

Absolutely spot on, as with all the work they have done for me on both my S3's.

thanks, I thought it could be fitted but was on the fence after speaking to audi. Useless twats.
I was aware of amd fitting it but its bloody miles away for me. I travelled down to get the remap and if I go down again it will have to be a bit more than cruise control to be worth it. Must admit amd are the dogs.
There must be someone in the north east who can do it

i rang AMD this morning,to book my car in for retro fit cruise control,i gave them the chassis and engine numbers.
they rang back soon after,to tell me that my vehicle did not have drive by wire,i am very dissapointed,as i thought all a3's had it.

i will have to drive to the south of france without it now,i am not looking forward to that.

my car is an a3 quattro, not an s3.

You must have an earlier model with cable throttle. Have a look at the front of the engine bay and you will see a black 1/2 moon shaped thing with a cable running through it. If no cables then you must have DBW.

Cheers

what year is your car? early 2000 models were still cable later were dbw and the changover is very vague. My dec 1999 reg 2000 model A3 still had a cable. Her july 99 A4 had a cable but AmD were very surprised that it did.

yes I think that's true, in theory 2000models were dbw, but ......... they needed to use up what they had in production !
