Quick Hello from New User

Post by SWks » Wed Nov 19, 2003 12:38 pm

Hello all,

Great forum and site you have here - am new to the Audi scene having been a Mini Cooper stalwart for many years.

I now need a "sensible" car and after test driving a couple of S3's I think it's the car for me.

My budget stretches to about 17k max so I'm looking at 210's I guess and I'm after a sub 30k mls car in Black or Silver with Black Leather and Bose if poss.

Have seen a couple at dealers and specialists (on web) and been offered a deal on a 2000 import (UK spec) through a main dealer, 14.5k mls, blk lthr, CD stacker no Bose, priced at £17,200 fully serviced with a 1yr Audi warranty. This seems a pretty reasonable deal for a dealer car but am aware of others at lower prices with slightly higher miles.

All and any comments/tips would be well received, particularly on cost of ownership (insurance, servicing, fuel consumption etc), reliability, known niggles, known nightmares, bargaining points etc.

Also if anyone has a nice silver or black car with full blk leather for sale within my price bracket drop me a line by email.

Look forward to being more of a part of the forum sometime soon.

Cheers,

Tim

Welcome mate

You'll find a great choice of S3 for your £17k and have a few decisions to make. One will probably be regarding facelift (Sept 2000 on), or pre-facelift model. You should be able to find the comparisions on this forum.
Another frequent decision is to spend all cash on the car, or get an earlier one and spend a couple of grand on mods. This seems like the sensible choice at the moment as you are able to pick up a good car with good miles for under £15k. This will leave scope for chip, brakes, wheels etc if that's what floats your boat, which to be fair, you wouldn't be on here if you wern't thinking about

All the best with your search, and £17.2k for a 2000 import is not fantastic value, but the milage is nice.

Cheers

Ben

Thanks to all for your welcome's - am doing my due diligence and reading up as much as I can on the car to try and get an idea for what I should be looking for as + and - points.

Are there any known problems with early cars (210bhp) that I should be particularly wary of?

Very excited about getting one!

No issues with early ones that I can think of. Drive a few before you buy and if the car has been modded find out exactly what has been done and ask on here for advice if needed.

Best of luck,

Ben
