Advice on imports...

Post by tomdav1 » Mon Nov 03, 2003 10:13 pm

Hi,

I'm just about to part with my dosh and get an S3....

I can't stretch to the cost of a new one so I'm looking 1 - 2 yr old. Have found one that is an (02) uk spec import (210bhp) but am unsure of its true value. Can anybody advise me on what these are worth second hand and any pitfalls to look out for....

Many thanks...

Tom

Welcome to RS246.com Tom

As long as its a UK spec import you should be fine.
My S3 is a import and have not any problems with it being so.

What is the specification you are looking at and what mileage?

Are you buying from a Audi dealer or private?
Also does the car have warranty?

Hi Riz,

its 210bhp, xenons, bose 6 disc... silver grey recaros, ming blue... 17" wheels... 31000 miles, (slight scratch on door).. Private sale, he got it through virgin... still has remainder of warranty on it... it was registered may 2002... £17k what do u reckon?

Or ....

51 plt 2001 225bhp uk car 36000 miles, chrome mirrors.. black recaros, metallic grey, bose 6 disc.... (immaculate)

Decisions, decisions..... ?????

To me 17k seems good value..... dont be put off because its a import..... have it inspected and scrates and dents do happen these days... mines got afew due to other individuals with no brains.....

Always try and haggle the price and check all paper work, the warranty peace of mind is there also.....

Also remember there are alot of fine examples out there aswell as some bad ones..... has it been looked after ok etc etc

If your planning to keep the car for awhile then i`d go for the import model rather than a UK car..... the UK car may cost more but in the long run when you come to sell they shouldnt be too much apart in resale values.... once prices hit rock bottom they usually stay there....

Feel free to ask any questions

Just remember that if you want to extend the warranty then its going to be about £500 for another years worth of cover !!

My 2001 car was a well-loaded UK-spec import. I picked it up 2nd hand at an independant dealer for approx £2k less than an Audi dealer would have charged me for an equivalent UK-spec car.

So yes should be cheaper if an import if only because the main dealers can be very snotty about them.
Former Audi owner. Thinking about getting another.

Its amazing.....

I had a 180bhp TT a couple of years ago but the S3 is far better in my opinion...

I spent the first weekend cleaning and getting to know it... as you do... he he ... ( Cheers to 'Bushy' for getting the mequiars kit to me next day)

So all in all i'm well chuffed!!!!

Cheers
