Facelift 2001

does anyone know with any certainty what was the full list of differences between the first s3 and the face lift version after 2001? i am looking to get a second hand s3 and aint sure if i should go for an earlier version or if it is worth the extra 2k to get the facelift...

Here some pictures showing the differences, if i recall correctly the face life cars were introduced mid 2001 X registered cars.

The face lift was done across all the A3 range including the S3.

Ive not got a interior shot of the faclift & pre-facelift S3`s but im sure you`ll go and see the different models yourself and notice the difference.

Ive had my S3 nearly two years and ive loved every bit of the car..... ive done a review about the ownership and some small issues ive had......

There is also a small difference in power depending upon the car manufacture year.

1999 the very first S3 had no DBW (Drive by wire) or VVT (Variable Valve Timing)

late 1999-2000 the S3`s now came with DBW and VVT

mid 2001 the face lift was introduced
late 2001 the new 225bhp engines were introduced

2002 nothing changed, possible more options
2003 same as above.

Remember that car MY (Manufacture years differ from actual dates)

My car was made in 2001 but is a MY2002 car, but mine was the first of the MY2002 cars which still ran the 210bhp (AMK) engines......

The differences in power are mininmal and ive done many comparisons back to back with a 225bhp Audi TT without any noticable differences... (except that the TT was a hairdressers car) [img]images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif[/img]

Here are the differences. :-

Audi S3 - 210bhp - AMK - MY99-02
Top speed = 148mph
0-62mph = 6.9secs
BHP = 210bhp
Torque = 270nm

Audi S3 - 225bhp - AMK - MY02-04?
Top speed = 151mph
0-62mph = 6.2secs
BHP = 225bhp
Torque = 280nm

I think that the insurance was cheaper on the old 210bhp models.

I dont know why its 2k more of a facelift model you are looking at?

What are the specs of both cars?

Riz, all S3's are DBW.
I've got one of the first and there ain't no cable [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
I also doubt the extra 15BHP gives a 0.7 second advantage to 60 [img]images/graemlins/boots.gif[/img]

Yes in real world situations theres not much in it.... also the turbo spools earlier than the 225bhp model.

17526miles and there is now ONLY 4mm on rears and 3mm on fronts....... see i can drive around corners [img]images/graemlins/<beep>_you.gif[/img]
