tyre size for s3 18" wheels

does anyone use 255/35/18 tyres on their 18x8 s3/tt wheels rather than the 225/40/18 - they are the same rolling radius, and could offer more grip.

anyone done it?
any bad or good effects on handling
does the tyre catch on anything inside or outside?
or stick out too much past the arches?

i am planning an upgrade to 18" wheels and thought about buying the 255/35/18 rather than the 225/40/18

Ive got 235/40/18s on mine and get a rubbing on the inner wings on full lock. But then again that maybe due to the coilovers i have fitted. I know someone used to have 255/18 on his S3 but im not sure of the profile he used and of any issues he had.

There are online rolling radius calculaters that u can use to work out if ur speedo will still be ok.

Dean used to have 255/35/18's and I don't know if it was because of just this but he managed to bend 3 RSTT's

Foggy. It was dean with 235's i mentioned. Im sure they were not 255's.

as for his bent wheels, may have been combo of, suspension (h&r i believe) 35 section tyres and replica wheels

Oh yeah, Dean had genuine Audi items and replaced them with replicas when they bent, and thought they were 255's also.

sure they were 235's at power engineering rolling road, March 2002... as we had a conversation about them...
may have gone up a size again sometime after i suppose?

Si. Dean was thinking about putting 235's on after finding that his 255's were making the car "tramline" more than he was comfotable with.
Can't remember if he ever got around to fitting 235's before selling the car.

My 18" RSTT`s came with 225/40 ZR18 Michelin tyres which i find very good indeed.
