New Owner!

Post by S3just » Wed Oct 15, 2003 3:13 pm

Hi all,

I asked lots of questions here several months ago and finally have just got my S3.

Wonderful car it is too.

Spec is:

2002 225 BHP

Silver with Black Leather
BOSE & 6CD
Sunroof
Heated Seats
Aluminium Mirrors
Arm Rest
The car looks and drives great. I have a few questions.

The car runs on 17 inch standard wheels. The tyre are bridgestones and are about 60% worn. Tyre pressures are 32 psi all round. The ride is slightly too firm and occasionally the steering tramlines a little. Can any adjustments be made to pressures/tracking etc or are my tyres a poor brand or just worn out? The tread wear looks pretty even.

The Bose sound system is great but it sounds like very little audio is coming out of the front door tweeters. Is this normal? The Fader is set in the middle and all other speakers are functional including the lower front door speaker.

My car has electric heated door mirrors that are standard but the glass is completely flat, not obscured at the end to get greater visibility. Is this normal and can the glass be changed for an obscured type?

Thanks for the valuable help i was given when i first enquired about S3s and thanks in advance for the answers i'm sure you'll give me.

P.S. Getting used to the power now and I can see some tuning ahead. Maybe a remap and exhaust!

Nice one with buying your S3, I only brought my 2001 model in Jan this year.

I also run tyres at 32 psi all round per the instructions in the fuel cap, and have also noticed it gets stuck in worn roads too! Have pressumed its part of compromise between fat tyres for grip and bmx ones for comfort

Don't have BOSE.

I've chipped mine plus filter, highly recommend it, but refer to other threads and more experienced people.

Happy driving.

I get harly anything from my door tweeters and I've heard other people mention the same about BOSE, so nothing to worry about.

Welcome mate

Welcome aboard

Your tyre pressures sound about right,to be honest the factory spec Bridgestones werent overly impressive on my car, couldnt wait to take them off,get a set of Goodyear F1s(GSD3s) on there and get your wheel alignment checked and reset, you should notice a big improvement.

Guys,

On a similar thread, I have had the S3 for about 3 weeks now and thought the tyres felt a bit, well soggy.
I am on the 18 rrst michelin PS 225/40's.
When I checked the PSI on them they were at 31.
The fuel cap says they should be on 36, so I duly changed them last night to 36. I am just a bit worried now, as this is the 1stn time I have run 18's and 36 seems hell of a high.

is this right?

Cheers

I run 34 psi front 32 psi rear, tyres wear evenly, steering feel and ride are both good...maybe try that for a while and see?

Its not that it feels wrong, (although I am not sure due to just getting it...) but really just wondering if oters are doing the same. RIZ? you have the same wheels and tyres do you not?

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like i'll change brand of tyres when they need changing.

The only unanswered question is about the wing wirror glass. Are they all completely flat are are some rounded at the edge to give an increased view angle?

I`ve always kept to the specifications in the fuel cap of 36PSi. I did the same with my previous car and kept to the recommended figures.... i did around 24,500miles on my last set of tyres which where 16" Michelin Pilot SX Sports for my 206GT.

So far i have done approx 17,400miles on my 18" tyres without any problems regarding wear/grip/use etc.... they all have 5mm tread left on them and are all evenly worn across the pattern.
