Smoke!!!
Smoke!!!
I have just bought a 2000 S3 for the Mrs. Its a cat C with slight side impact. Its all booked in to be done asap so thats not a problem. The trouble is when i got the car home and got it off the trailer i found that it had a noisy tappet. So i checked the oil and there was nothing registering on the dip stick. So i put 3 ltrs in and still nothing? Gonna get some more tomorrow. Any way, I took it for a psin around the close and every time the turbo span up there was a large puff of grey smoke. Nothing on idle just when it spins up. Turbo sounds fine too? I can hear a slight air noise on tick over so think there might be a slight leak. Would this be enough to cause the smoke? Also there is a slight white gunk around the oil filler cap? Head gasket? This sound like one for doug

RE: Smoke!!!
Dude, why you driving it with no oil in?
White cream normally means head gasket. White smoke on spin up normally means the blower is knackered.

RE: Smoke!!!
The out come was that it had a short dip stick in it which was giving it a false reading. When it was drained of oil it had 10 ltrs in it. Massivly over filled.
Thats where the smoke came from!! I have a brand new turbo anyway so hopfully it will be ok?
