ABS and ESP Lights

Post by Gee » Fri Jan 20, 2006 2:18 pm

On my drive to work today both the ESP and ABS lights came on the dash. I switched off the ignition and on again and the OK light came on but the ESP and ABS lights stayed on.

Anyone have any idea as to why this would happen all of a sudden?

My ESP light came on when one the motion sensors was faulty. I think there is two sensors to detect the direction of the car, one from front to rear and another left to right. They work together in conjunction with the ABS to operate the traction control.

Mine was replaced under warranty ;)

You could also check to see that the battery is not it's way out.

esp and abs suck loads of power on start up, if the battery is failing it can sometimes get the car started but will not fire up abs or esp.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

I've noticed that my rear brake discs are close to needing replaced could this cause any probs with the above?

Is it just a case of getting a VAG Com check done to find the problem?

Get a VAG COM check - it could be anything but if those lights are on you should have an error logged

I've just had exactly the same problem, the cause turned out to be a failed speed sensor that provides input to the esp. All up the stealership billed me £202 inc VAT to sort it. £55 to confirm problem, £41 for the part and the rest for labour!!

my ABS/ESP lights kept coming on, but always went out again when you turn the engine off and on again. Ended up being a front to back motion sensor according to Audi. £100 for the part, £100 labour.

seems to have fixed it, but I only had it done earlier this week
