Post by 100s4 » Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:55 pm

Hi, im new here. Not long had my car but have a question.

Need to top up the oil in my car and cant find what grade it uses in the handbook.

Anyone know what to put in?

I had some castrol edge 0w40 in the garage so put some of that in as it only needed a dash but need to know what i should use as it'l need a service soon too.

Cheers

p.s. here's the beast -

Hi,

Get either,

“Mobil 1 or Castrol RS” fully synthetic oil” (0W-40)

I use ‘Mobil 1’ in my (97 –S6) car and it does make a difference. Can be dear to buy but worth every penny. ((Have you got a ‘Costco’ near you? 4L of Mobil 1 for £20) you will need to join or get somebody to get a couple for you)

Use a cheap fully synthetic to flush the oil system (i.e. Halfords) and use a new filter. Replace the filter again and fill with Mobil 1 or Castrol RS.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Andy H.

Oh I forgot to mention, watch out for the turbo charger output hose fracturing. At ‘8’ years old they will have had it and you will not know until your car loses all boost over ‘1.2 bar’, miss-fires badly and lots of hissing too.

Fit a set of Samco TCS146 hoses. (£140)

Here’s one my car prepared earlier today.

Hi again,

I got my set, or should I say when they are delivered from www.rallydesign.co.uk .

The price does not include the dreaded VAT or delivery but is still significantly cheaper than £190 to £200. If you go for the standard blue colour you should get them within a couple of weeks. The other colours or if they are out of stock will mean a ‘6 to 8’ week wait but if you do not need them, the delivery delay should be OK.

Watch out for defective spark plug amplifier stages. Mine decided to stuff two ‘out of five’ and it was significantly cheaper to convert them to the newer type. (Bought the kit from www.034motorsport.com in America) I will post the pictures in about three weeks after the modifications are done.

Regards,

Andy H.
