Just bought an UrS4

Picked myself up a mint, silver 63,500 mile 1993 S4 at the weekend. Been grinning ever since! Anyone else out there in the UK with one?

The only slight niggle is a squeaky noise when turning the steering wheel to the left at low speeds. Any ideas?

Oh, and what sort of figures should I see on the dashboard LCD boost gauge? Seems to peak at about 1.6 bar. That sound about right?

Just waiting for the rain to stop so I can give it a damn good clean

Sorry, cant help on the squeaky steering, but hopefully a drop of oil or WD40 will cure it.

Yes, really need to take some pics to show just how well preserved this car is! Going to wait until I've had a chance to give it a full valet and given the paint a good session with a clay bar and coat of wax.

But in the mean time ...



Oh, and can you recommend a good specialist for these cars? QRSPort in Chester is the only one I've turned up locally-ish!

I'd come across MRC when looking for specialists - to be fair it's a bit of a trek from up North. Oddly enough I actually drove past Banbury on Saturday when I was bringing the car back

Will certainly bear them in mind though, may well be worth the journey if they are as good as people say!

Thanks Really pleased with it, it's a real gem with a lots of history and provenance. Started life as an Audi UK fleet demo according to the service book, before beign owned by a rich London type for the next 11 years!

Spec-wise the only option box ticked when it was ordered was for the sunroof. It then had manual air-con fitted at about 8600 miles - a Diavia system. Inside it's got platinum coloured jacqard cloth with the funky 'quattro' logo on them. Since then it's had a comprehensive security system fitted, and a Sony CD head unit.

Niggle-wise the slightly squeaky steering needs sorting, the gearbox can be somewhat notchy and reluctant to engage, the refurbed alloys look rather drab without the original machine-finished outer rim, and the radio is (I presume) wired into the light circuit so it sets off the lights-on buzzer if you leave it on and turn the engine off! Oh, and there's a hole in the driver's side floor mat! Hehe.

Think I'll approach QRSport for the imminent inspection service, and perhaps for a full alignment?

The radio buzzer is a standard feature.

My father had one of these a back in the late 90's, and yes the seats are quite cool, and the wheels do look better with the polished rim.

Cheers for the feedback on the radio/buzzer thing. Feel happier knowing that the radio wiring is (probably) correct.

Might look into getting the wheels properly refurbed as they do look a bit scruffy. Sort of low on my list of jobs though as I want to get the car in tip-top mechanical condition first.

Think it would benefit from a four-wheel alignment, gear-box oil change, and an AC recharge. Also want to check all the turbo hoses for tightness and to make sure there are no leaks, as it doesn't seem to be boosting (or overboosting) quite as much as I'd expected, nor as consistently.

One last question: is it possible to, or beneficial to perform an ECU reset on the car? An ECU reset did good things to my old Impreza when switching from a diet of 95 RON to Optimax!
