Right I am probably going to start another debate like my previous tyre question but here goes.

I have been running my B6 on Shell Optimax since I got it but it appears Shell are rationing this fuel to us flat capped whippet owning northern monkees ( just a generalisation ) so you soft southern pufters can have it ( another generalistaion )

Out of frustration at being told they had no fuel ( and the bint behind the counter asking why cant I just use regular shahite ) I fapped off to a BP garage a few miles away and after topping up with Ultimate I found the car felt smoother and seemed a tad more frugal.

So my questions are

A) Why the fap are Shell AND BP rationing super fuel in the northeast (you enviro terrorists)

B) What is the best fuel for the B6 ???

Discuss

Northern people are poorer, they'll charge more for it down south where people wipe their arses with 50s and make a killing. Something like that, anyway, I'm sure of it.

It's a mine field over here trying to find the best fuel. Apparently Germany is a better place to get fuel but that means you need to venture.

Optimax? Do you mean V-power?

IIRC it was rebranded several years ago when it was uprated to 99RON

As a newbie I'm loathe to throw a spanner into anyone's ideas, but we played around with some bikes and fuel on the dyne. We ran a GSXR1000 on a tankful of both (and we drained the full system between tankful), and we got pretty much bugger all difference in BHP throughout the rev range at 500rpm increments.

So in conclusion; save your pennies for spending on pies :D

yup rich I meant V power, its not power I am after ( although if I can get the Jag V8 supercharger off ebay that will change !! )

I just found the car seemed smoother on the BP fuel than the Shell and I couldn't figure out why ?

And its 2012 The_Coat we are multicultural and use kebab fat

Chilli sauce peeps ????

Only ever V-power, BP felt very sluggish and went off after 2 weeks or so. Tesco momentum was too inconsistent and too many rumours about what it's actually made of.

"after topping up with Ultimate I found the car felt smoother and seemed a tad more frugal."

Can you put an approx number on the "frugal"? I'm curious to see if the mpg increase would trade-off sufficiently to cover the price differential?

My (totally unscientific) observations were that I got roughly 10% better economy from V Power (at least on long runs), so as long as it costs less than 10% more than regular I figured it was worth it.

My mate with an RS4 (B5) got significantly better economy following his remap.

I can manage an average of about 30-35 mpg if I drive like a stingy nun, I cant put an exact figure on economy without a full tank top up and a run but when I first bought the car it returned a fairly easy 35mpg on the run home ( 200 odd mile ). I have since discovered these cars seem to detune themselves if they a driven by miss daisy ( car was owned by a middle aged woman prior to me ) . I have noticed since I have put a couple of thousand miles more on her she is a lot livelier but a bit less frugal !!

I will top up with ultimate and run her and see what I can average over a couple of hundred miles and I will let you know, I have had 200mpg showing on the indicator but i prefer to see a row of little lines !!!! ( its my favourite game and yes I am sad )
