Post by ma99hew » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:23 pm

hi, can anyone recommend a company who will refurb my manuel gearbox on the S4?

Been quoted a few prices, started at £4000+vat, down to £2000+vat, now at £1295!!

gearbox is already off the car, so just a case of sending it off!!

Are you still looking for this? What area are you??

About 2004ish I had an autobox on a Saab 9000 Aero rebuilt by TopGear near Leicester (their number then was 0116 2301301) as that was who I was told Bond Street Saab used to send their stuff to. Much more tricky operation than a manual due to the faults that were being exhibited.

They got the job done and were fine to deal with as we slowly had the car in and out to change aux bits before taking the plunge to switching to a recon box. Didnt get stung and no damage done to the car while it was in their hands! I even got use of a car while they had mine (ok - so it was Rover 214s but hey....!).

If this is no good to you maybe enquire where your dealer would send gearboxs to for rebuild / overhaul?? At least they should be familiar with the product then.

Cannot recommend a company but I would suggest trying to get your hand on a better 6th gear to improve consumption. Gearing is way too high in these cars and a 70mph cruise in 6th should be less that 3k rpms as opposed to approx. 3,5k.

Have a look hear post #4: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... S4-and-RS4!

With this gearing a 75mph cruise is just over 2k rpm. Sweet
