Engine Out Job. Gulp!!!!

Dear All,

Recently had a few issues with sensor failure as reported in previous posts. This culminated in me sticking the car into Audi at Teeside to find out what the problem was and it appears to be a variety of issues. All sensors replaced (cam position, crank position, engine speed, injector)and then the engine management light has still come on.

Audi have advised me that it could possibly be the valve timing and to get this checked it would be an engine out job. I know this is going to be expensive but would appreciate any advice on how I can proceed. The car is running perfectly. If anything is seems a bit quicker of the mark since the above sensors have been replaced.

Is it worth sticking with Audi and getting all of the engine out jobs done, i.e. timing chains, etc or should I pop off to a specialist (MRC, etc) to get it sorted.

Hads this happened to anyone else on here?

Any advice gratefully received!

All the best.

Paul.

If I was you, I'd post this topic another 4 times just to ensure everyone will read it...

I would get them to get a diagnosis of the fault code from Germany before allowing them to pull the engine especially if you are paying, sounds like a fishing expedition to me.

If the engine is running fine then I can't understand why they need to remove it? What do they think they will find?

Hi,

It sounds like it's something other than the sensors causing the problem. Because they seem to be "random" errors from a lot of sensors, it must be something "common" that's causing the fault. It might be the voltage regulator that's faulty and is it's, maybe, spiking low and high voltage that's sending the sensors a bit daft.
I had a similar problem a while a go and even the interior lights would "pulse" when you hit certain engine revs.
It's worth checking, anyway.

Regards, Chris.

Forgot to mention - I know it sounds obvious, but, have you checked the battery terminal connections are sound?

Thanks for the advice all.

Latest is that I have a fault on Injector 4. Fault states that it is not communicating with the ECU. I am a bit mechanically minded and what with all the other random faults, I think (and Audi agree) that the ECU is on its way out. Car gone back into Audi to check the injector, wiring, etc and if that is ok then looks like an ECU replacement.

Actually not too worried about the cost of replacing that because its a hell of a lot better than dropping the engine.

Will keep you all posted.

All the best.
