Black Optics B6 S4

Hi all,

Well after seeing AMARS new RS6 I have finally decided that I want to start blackening the chrome parts on my Noggy B6 S4 Avant. I have been thinking about it for months now and finally decided to act on it.

I cant really decide on a few things though.....

1) should I take the parts off and spray them or should I wrap them or should I buy new black ones from Audi (is that possible I didnt think black optics was avalible on the B6 ?) - I sort of like the idea of being able to swap back if need be though.

2) How far should I go ...... I'm thinking everything except the four rings and the mirrors - maybe a matt silver for those ??

Has anyone done this recently, and does anyone have any pictures of a standard noggy (or other colour) S4 avant with it done ? .....not really interested in images of super modified cars with black stuff as the rest of mine will stay standard - OEM + is my cup of tea.

Thanks

Dan

I too have thought about this before and looked into some options, but cash stopped it at the time. I have a B6 Noggy Saloon, so not a million miles from your car.

1) wrap is best, no long term damage, reversible, quick
2) I would leave badges, rings, mirrors, thats it

Maybe a satin black for the optics? or better still, carbon?

Yeah I'm very much swaying towards wraping it, and defo matt black - carbons not my bag.

I've never seen it being done but can you actually get a 'good' wrap around small fiddly parts like the grill and around the badges ?

The chrome separates from the grilles. So it's well easy to do

I had mine apart a few weeks ago to spray the grilles satin black

Still undecided on if I'll be keeping the chrome trims on the grilles and windows, so just sprayed the grilles for now.

Scotch padded and degreased, 1 coat of plastic primer, then satin blacked. Looks OE and abit moodier than standard grey.

The other thing was I had my wheels powder coated and I think loosing the chrome may be too much

Hmm, not really convinced as it looks like the bog standard B6 A4 grill except for S4 badge..

Xyber, cheers for the pics, you may not-GTFO now, thanks :-)

as for the black on the wheels, I totally see what you mean, this is why I went for graphite wheels as they lift it a little. One thing I did on my old 2.2 Si Lude (which was black) is have fitted gleaming Honda Championship white alloys, it looked stunning, that may not work for you given it was a Jap look, but might be worth exploring in photoshop.

Would certainly be unique!

ive just wrapped mine, painted the mirrors though, but could easity wrap your style mirrors, took about an hour and a half to do a side. better than paint imo as 1 you can remove to sell etc and 2 paint doesnt like sticking to that silver trim

Ive had white wheels before, my detailing OCD didn't agree with it as I was rinsing them every night.

LOL ^^^ I know what you mean, when I had the white lude with white wheels it wasnt a problem, as soon as I bought a black one and swapped all the bits over, I got to cleaning the wheels all the time, weird huh?
