S4 Cab Broken Into - RNS-E Stolen, No Alarm triggered?!?!

Had my S4 Cabrio broken into on my driveway last night. I live on a cul-de-sac well out of the way of civilisation, and the scumbags were obviously fairly skilled in their trade: door lock perfectly and precisely removed, RNS-E stolen with no damage to dash/interior whatsoever. Car was locked off the remote, alarm armed.
Obviously the unit was stolen to order, as my M5 was parked next to it completely unlocked (whoops) also with a built-in satnav system in plain view - untouched.
My main concern is (other than the disturbing reality that my car was specifically targeted), how did they gain entry to the car and move around inside without triggering the alarm??? How can I ever sleep soundly when I get the unit replaced without fear of a recurrence??

Sorry to hear this. Worrying they got in - I thought the deadlocks on the doors meant you couldn't pull the door lock out from the outside and open the door?

ive got one of these watching at all times.

It can be set up to trigger lights and alarms I think, with its motion sensor, its got several inputs in the back, one of which im considering connection an IR floodlight to if possible

Yeah, still not got the foggiest how they did it. Surely the alarm can only be disarmed from the remote and not just by the door lock? Looks like I'm going to have to blitz the garage and get all the junk out to make way for the S4 - its sad when you have to put your own car under lock and key in what has always been a quiet crime-free area.

Are you by any chance near the Leeds area?
Reason I ask is that there is a notice thread over on audisport.net and there is a spate of thefts of RNS-E units in certain areas of the country, and mainly Audi RNS-E units.
Totally gutted for you! Hope they rot in hell

Yes I'm around 40 minutes from Leeds.
Also found today that the alarm is totally inactive when arming from the remote. The lights on the door card tops dont flash on either door, and the alarm doesnt go off when the now lock-less drivers door is opened.
Does anyone know if a lock barrel from a B6 saloon will fit my cabrio?

Mmmm,
I wonder if the thieves are able to cut/ splice in to the diagnostics /
VCDS cable from under the car ( or somewhere else that is accessible from outside of the passenger space)
It must be this sort of scam that's going on. You can disable the alarm via the diag port (
VCDS/ VAG-COM).
I'm going to trace the diag cables tomorrow and see if they are accessible from outside of the car.
Cheers, Chris.

Could also be that they have captured the signal from the remote control and used that to get normal access to the car, is there a log that can be accessed by VAG-COM showing operation of the remote?
