High Oil Usage

Hi everyone, I am having a problem with high oil usage in my S4 cab, it's using between min and max within 200 miles. Surely this can be usual? I have only just bought the car so not sure what oils in there, would using a certain one help?
Also it's going in to QST for the timing chain tensioners doing, would this effect the coil consumption?
Thanks for any help!!

Suggest you do a search as there have been a few threads about this topic. It seems some cars like to drink the oil and others don't.
Changing the tensioners, thats an engine out job. If it is due to the rattle then that has also been discussed, there was a post about the rattle and using a slightly thicker grade of oil helped that.

yeah the whole engines coming out, all done under warranty so want to make it 100% perfect before the warranty expires!
What oil do you guys use? I have started to refill it with Castrol Edge 5/30....

I agree with Xyber. I changed my oil with Fusch Titan Pro-S 5/40 and it quitened the chain rattle to almost nothing. Expensive though, even through Opie Oils it's best part of £100 delivered.

Could be the Head Gaskets need replacing - mine has started to use more oil and have been advised that the gasket on one side needs replacing.
With regatds to the Fuchs Pro S 5W-40 is that ok to use on a variable service ? or does it have to be used on a fix time service basis ?

Get yourself on a fixed interval service - the longlife variable services aren't suitable for the V8s.
Topping up with the Pro S is a bit of waste of money if you have something cheaper in the system.
If you need to replace the gasket it might be worth doing both - although it's not necessary as it won't save much time/money to do one now and the other in the future (if necessary). I changed both of mine a few months ago as there was evidence they were both leaking (run your finger under the rim/ledge of the perimeter of the valve covers - if there's anything black and sludgy, there's a leak).
Lastly, if you do have a leak, it's a bit of waste of money buying an expensive oil and having it end up on your driveway.
