Hi all,

in case you haven't heard/read, there seems to be a workshop order (like a recall) out on the coil packs for our cars.

See here for more info:

Hmm, after reading all pages of the thread (it's in the RS4 forum) I'm now not so sure it'll apply to the S4 as well. Something on there says it applies to engine code BNS. The S4 V8 is BBK I think.

I might give my local dealer a call this afternoon. I can't see why it shouldn't apply to us as well, as we seem to get just as many coil pack issues!!

A quick google seems to show that it's popping up in S3 and TT forums, and indicates that it could be applicable to all petrol engines.

My dealer advised it is quite a wide campaign (1.8 A4s and TTs being the most affected).

That's encouraging. Will give the dealer a call and see if they know about it.

Just had coil packs replaced on my B6 S4 Avant Tiptronic free of charge, while in for routine service. It came up on their system as a recall item.

My 3.0 A6 QS is covered by this - booked in for next Friday. My '02 S8 is not - presumably different coil pack design entirely.....

Cheers to Five-Oaks Audi for swapping out the last 3 remaining. Shame I'd already replaced at least 4, and carrying 2 spares too. Just waiting to hear if I'm allowed to trade/swap the spares in too. But considering the car is 7 years old, that's not bad going really.

My S4 B7 Avant is booked in for the recall at Brighton Audi, will see what happens. I've not had any problems since I got the car but after reading this, called them and they said to bring it in.

Same here....

I rang Audi UK, who told me they knew nothing about it, despite me quoting the service ref number....ahem.

So I rang my local dealer who confirmed that it was a service recall item, they checked my chassis number and it's going in next Thurdsay to have all 8 replaced.

Result

I've never had any issues with coilpacks on this car though and have had it for 3 and half years of its 7 year old life. (I did have to replace 4 of them on my S3 though 4 years ago, so I feel somewhat justified to be getting something for free!)

I wonder if this applies to all VAG cars or just Audi? (Might see if I can get my wifes Golf Gti done at the VW dealer)

5 out of 6 on my A6 QS - dealer also refunded me for the spare I had in the boot after 1 failed last year, which is the same type they are now fitting. Figure if they've all been replaced the chances of me needing that spare in the remaining couple of years I'll have the car is slim to none!
