HELP!!! Lost car keys...
HELP!!! Lost car keys...
hi peeps, in a bit of a pickle...
lost my car keys today, the only key I had for the car, Police haven't had any handed in yet either so not sure where they are, turfed the house over and retraced my steps, nothing!
so, a quick search on google reveals loads of 'mobile lost key' recovery companies, all with mobile numbers...
anyone used one? any other suggestions?
I dont really fancy telling someone where my car is only for them to half inch it when I am not looking...
seriously stressed...

RE: HELP!!! Lost car keys...
Have you got the original Audi logbook file? Look in the spine because I found the plastic emergency key and the key number for getting a new one cut, hidden away in mine. Its a black plastic key in a clear plastic sleeve with 2 sets of numbers inside

And does your insurance policy have anything to help? Approved contractors or something?

xyber, that is very interesting, I am in London now overnight but will buzz the missus to talk her through it and see if it is there. I have the original book and stuff.
if not, looks like i will speak to the stealers, also, the insurance company is a good shout, you know your <beep>!

RE: HELP!!! Lost car keys...
whoa! I just spoke to her and she has found the black plastic key and tag, so that is a major plus, not I just have to hope the car doesn't get nicked before I get home tomorrow and get a key cut on Friday, another helpful member on audiSRS suggested that when I get a key sorted, I get audi to programme a new code and delete previous relationships to old keys off the ECU, meaning that my car becomes secure again.
feeling better already! thanks a lot mate, I can sleep tonight!

Just a thought here - I'd be careful with informing insurance companies. I've just taken delivery of an RS5 (lucky me) and, when I called the insurance company for vehicle change it was clearly stated that, in the event of the car being taken with the keys (ie I couldn't produce both sets in the case of theft ) then the company wouldn't pay out.
Unsure how this would differ to lost keys?
If your car is whipped (not wanting to tempt fate here you understand Lee) and you have no keys, how would you stand?
Hmm...

so what happens if someone steals your keys (via break in etc) and takes your car?grum71 wrote:Just a thought here - I'd be careful with informing insurance companies. Your cars not insured?
thats one crap insurance policy...basically only covering you for accidents and not theft as people dont take these cars with a wire coat hanger and putting wires together ... they break in, steal the keys
RE: Re: RE: HELP!!! Lost car keys...
or just have an extra couple of keys coded , then you'll always have spares to produce
RE: Re: RE: HELP!!! Lost car keys...
dk - in a nutshell, then yes. There are so many thefts relating to this kind of theft that the insurance companies are taking a stand to safe guard themselves. Whilst I agree this is ludigrous, its a fact.
Please don't judge on my policy, check it out for yourself. You may be in for a rude awakening.
Whilst some innocent motorists collect a 'new [to them'] vehicle with only one key, if they don't produce 2 keys in the event of a theft then they may not be insured. It's bizarre I know, but this was [in caps] was stipulated by 3 insurance consultants.
Maybe worth a check with your policy.
Hey...don't shoot the messenger...only trying to help

RE: Re: RE: HELP!!! Lost car keys...
Does deregistering the keys make it secure?
I just thought it meant the immobiliser wouldn't de-arm and hence the alarm would sound. Doesn't it mean that there will now be two keys out there somewhere which could open your car?
