B6 S4 - replacing the battery

Anyone know how to get the battery out?

I have a replacement and have disconnected the +ve and -ve terminals but I can't see how the battery is held in place or how to remove the 3rd connector by the +ve terminal.

Does anyone know what the 3rd connection is for? (It doesn't look as if the replacement I have has a similar connection point)

Cheers for that. Glad I'm not the only one who had difficulty. I'm going to have a good look for the clamp screw because I haven't foung it yet.

Could be a dealer job yet

No,no,no,no,no,no. Do it yourself mate. The hardest part is just lifting the battery in and out of the engine!!!!

the screw is under the metal with things, best get a long extendable hex key adapter, it took 15 minutes of digging to do, but once its out voila

Just make sure you get a long enough tool to do the job. I remember spending about 30-45 minutes undoing the screw on mine because the allen key I was using was too short, such that I could only do a quarter turn at a time, while stretched out over my warm engine!! Gave me a nice bit of backache ready for my 8 hour drive up north later that day!!

Thanks guys. Called in at the local Audi dealer at lunchtime. They kindly demonstrated how to remove the battery on a car in their workshop.

Yes, it does require a hex key on a long extension. Do I have one? No. Did they offer to lend me one? No.

So tomorrow's task is to get one!

Also the 'third' connection is a drain which requires a firm tug to pull off.

The technician isn't going to let you have his own personal tools is he.
It will be a couple of £'s for you to get one and keep it.
As said above, hardest thing is lifting it over the engine.
Best of luck and any problems just ask on here, someone should have an answer

I got a 45 piece multi-tool extension kit from halfrauds for £15 - best buy ever from there, used it pretty much continually ever since - including building my new ikea office in the house. I think you need the 25 or 27 hex attachment, pretty sure its 25

I'm surprised they even did that! If it was your business, would you tell people how they can do it themselves instead of paying you?

Just to close off. Bought a 6mm hex socket (60p), used both extensions of my 1/4" socket set and hey presto, bracket undone in seconds.

Battery out, new one in, all connected and all is well although both key fobs needed to be re-programmed.

The only problem is that it is almost impossible to re-tighten the battery clamp as the hex bit has to go in at a slight angle (owing to a massive engine bay brace) and this will cause the bolt to cross thread. So the battery is at liberty at the moment until I'm passing my trusty Audi dealer.

Well I had been in there only a few weeks ago spending £700 having both auxillary rads replaced so I did rather hope for some freebie help.
