Instrument cluster plastic screen cracked

Post by kidyamlo » Wed Oct 20, 2010 6:34 pm

Hi, I'm trying to source a new plastic screen for the instrument cluster on my car (2004 B6 S4) due to it having a nasty crack running a third of the way up, starting at the bottom and located centrally.

I have been told that the part cannot be ordered separately from VAG, rather you have to buy the whole cluster. I think I understand why, but it's bloody annoying when the screen is all I need... unless it's impossible to replace the screen without breaking something else?

Surely the part is universal across the B6 (and B7?) A4 range, therefore worse case scenario would be buying an instrument cluster for a cooking A4 and getting the screen out somehow?

Tried a few breakers located randomly online but nobody seems to have one. Can anybody recommend a breaker and / or advise on the practical aspect of getting this replaced. It's hardly a massive problem, but it's visibly annoying.

Please refrain from any gynecologist themed jokes about troubling VAG cracks... unless you really, really must.

I believe the instruments within the cluster are standard throughout the B6/B7 range. The only differnece is that ours has the S4 logo. The others do not.

Four rings in Doncaster might be a good bet for some clocks. There is a decent place near Bristol but I don't remember their name.
Garage;
Audi S4 V8 2003.
Porsche 911 Targa 3.6 2001.
ZXR400.

Try http://www.breakeryard.com/

The whole unit is usually sealed these days to prevent "tampering" with what's inside.

Four Rings not breaking Audis anymore (not sure if they're called Four Rings now?). Breaker Yard... we'll see. Soon as I visited the site I realised I'd used it before to no effect. How hard can it be to track one of these things down... eBay I guess! :-)

Got a replacement fascia from Cluster Repairs. Good service, recommended: http://clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/
