Vinyl wrapping my S4.....

Post by cfoster » Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:56 am

Had a few pm's regarding the vinyl wrapping of my S4 so thought i'd start a new thread with pics of progress!! Its the third car i've wrapped so really still in a bit of a learning phase (been signwriting for years though). Very happy with it overall so far, will be re-doing the rear quarter at the end as im not totally happy with the way the panel came out but its not a major dilemna!

Few pics....

Looks great. Are you doing this on your own? All the vids of wrapping I've seen on youtube have several people applying vinyl to each panel, it much be a nightmare doing it on your own? Are you spending most of your time bubble pushing and heat gunning?

As I said in the other post how does vinyl stand up to car washes and pressure washes, and things like stone chips and door opening dings?

Look forward to seeing it evolve.......... :)

R33 - yes mate been doing it on my own except for the roof where I got a friend to assist as its loads easier. Not really a nightmare to do on your own though, depending on what cast vinyl you go for depends on how easy it is to lay. This particular vinyl has a 'filter' type system where the bubbles automatically come out without hardly any grief, with its so conformable that the only parts I needed to heat up was around the passenger door handle and the edges, the rest laid on fine!!

I'll be hopefully finishing the side tonight so will update!

Wrap is going ok, both sides are now complete, very happy so far with it, going to redo one of the rear quarters as i fooked a small part of it up, not noticable but will redo it. Decided not to do the door shuts as they were becoming a pain in the arse. Also carbon wrapped the roof rails but havent fitted them yet, they do look smart though!!

Brill.

Shame you're not doing the shuts though. Everytime I opened the door, I'd be thinking, ah feck!

The roof rails will look great too.

I'm next....haha, well I would be if I could justify £1500 to change the colour of my car with my wife instead of going on holiday ;)

Looks great, keep the pics coming.

this is going to look awesome!

i thought about going matte white on my R32, but having seen some up close they seem to fade badly and go a slight pinky hue!!

was gonna use these guys:- http://www.carbonskin.co.uk/

£300 for the roof, mirrors, and front grille.. or £1100 for the whole car

keep up the good work :D

Out of interest how much did the vinyl itself cost and where did you buy it from?

Stumpy - i know i did plan to do the door shuts but they were becoming such a pain i lost interest!! You can't notice with it all shut so not that worried.

goose - i think £1100 is about right for a full wrap in a normal colour, matt is slightly cheaper than gloss vinyl as well (except black)

r33 - i think hte total cost including the vat for the vinyl came to about £240 for the white and about £120 for the carbon for the roof rails and side bits. I bought it from Hexis my vinyl supplier.

I can't wait to see it all finished. Incidentally, do you need to inform the DVLA of a colour change if you do a vinyl wrap?
