CO2 emissions/VED band

My Mondeo ST220 is beginning to get just a little bit boring now, and I am thinking of trading up to a 2004/2005 S4 Avant within a few months. One question that springs to mind is the VED liability on something packing a 4.2 litre V8.

The Mondeo doesn't exactly have low CO2 emissions at 249g/km (Band L), but because it's pre April 2006, my last tax disc was "only" £215. Do pre April 2006 S4s enjoy the same immunity to the punitive £950 VED rate, or should I prepare my wallet for some harsh punishment?
