Wheel advice

Post by darlo968 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 4:33 pm

First up, I know nothing about wheels. I have never been interested in fitting aftermarket wheels or anything like that. I am the kind of guy who like his cars to be as they left the factory, for the most part. That said, in a moment of uncharacteristic spontaneity, I bought a B7 S4 with aftermarket wheels because "they look nice". Not surprisingly, it turns out that these wheels are actually cheap and nasty (but they still look nice), and after much soul searching (why do I take these things so seriously?) I have decided that they must be replaced. The tyres are cheap and nasty too.

I am not sure what posseses someone to buy a new S4 and put cheap wheels and tyres on it almost immediately - the car is 18 months old and the wheels look like they have been on there for some time. I suspect the originals got broke somehow... Anyway, there is an original OEM wheel as a spare (kerbed, despite clearly having never been mounted!?). I don't know what type it is, and the mass of numbers and symbols stamped on the inside of the hub are a mystery to me. I thought I would find four more of these somewhere and be done with it...but I don't actually like the look of them. Can anyone tell me what type they are likely to be? What options were there when these cars were new? They are 18" and look like all other Audi sporty wheels with 5 twin spokes.

I want to stick to standard S4 wheel sizes (offsets etc) so can anyone tell me what the important figures I need to know are? I don't really want to go beyond 18" anyway...

Any suggestions of wheels that look nice? My car is white and I am partial to darker wheels, but not black. Wheels by Audi or OEM suppliers, or reknowned specialists are preferred, of course... Any advice is welcome!
