Ignition Coils

Hi all,
I have had 2 ignition coils fail over the last 4 weeks, and am therefore considering that it may also be worth replacing the other 6 to save myself future problems.
I have found them for sale at EuroCarParts for approx £25 each
(S4 Ignition Coils) - does anybody know if these are any good, or is it worth paying the extra money for the OEM ones from Audi?
Does anybody have any suggestions for other alternatives that I should consider?
Many thanks,
Ben.

If buying from ECP, make sure its the Bremi make, and not any other.
I think another way to tell the newer ones is that they have a recessed top, unlike the flat original ones.

Hi,
Just checked and they are definitely the BREMI ones - are these ones good then?
Are there any better ones I should consider?
Many thanks,
Ben.

I paid about that for coils from Doug at MRC.
We keep four spare in the car (since the S4 breaking down on tour would not be funny!).

Yeah Bremi are OE
They have gone up slightly at the dealer. RRP is £28+VAT IIRC

Excellent - many thanks for that!
I shall buy the BREMI ones from EuroCarParts and fit these.
Cheers,
Ben.

Good look with the offside bank one's, they are a pain.
Are you changing the spark plug's at the same time?

Spark plugs were done at the last service a few weeks ago, so they are fine.
Any advice on the offside bank? I can see that the cold air feed ducting will need to be removed, but I'm hoping the airbox itself can stay in place.
Cheers,
Ben.

I had one on the offside changed by an Audi Tech at the roadside, and I'm pretty sure he just removed the ducting, which is easy to do (I've had to do it quite a few times changing sidelight bulbs), but not the airbox.

I think i had to take the air box apart to change the coils on mine.
I changed all mine together cause thats what audi advise (probably to make money)

I think you're right. Looking more closely at the engine bay, I can't see anyway of getting to the torx screw that holds the ignition loom in place at the rear offside (by cylinders 3 & 4) without getting the airbox out the way
Anybody got any good tips, or is it easiest just to remove the airbox to access the screw?

Just go for it mate. You'll be suprised at how quick you can do it. It's just soul destroying if you look in advance.

For those thinking of replacing all 8 ignition coils themselves, I have discovered it is not as daunting a task as I originally thought - even for a 'spanner novice' like me
Taking it very slowly this weekend, I had all 8 done in about 45 mins to an hour, including a short test drive and tea break after each bank was completed.
The nearside bank is fine, requiring just the coolant expansion bottle to be loosened from its bracket to allow the coil for cylinder 8 to be removed.
The offside bank is a little more tricky, requiring the top of the airbox to be loosened (but not entirely removed). This is a case of removing 2 screws to separate the top from the bottom of the airbox, two hoses to be removed, and the MAF connector to be disconnected. Once this is done, the top can be pulled upwards a few inches to make room to access the ignition coils at the rear of the engine (cylinders 3 & 4).
I used a 1 hour paid login (for 4 Euros) to
www.erwin.audi.com for instuctions on removing the airbox cover - this was for my own peace of mind, though in retrospect it is fairly obvious once you get started.
Many thanks to all here that offered advice - much appreciated!
Cheers,
Ben.
